Building Academic Skills With Tehnology
Funded Feb 10, 2017Your donation has made a huge impact in my classroom. The boys are so excited to use the tablet to engage in reading activities. We have downloaded an app where the students use a reading program that the school has paid for, and this program is researched based and proven to help raise reading levels. We have also found apps that support growth in mathematics, which the students are encouraged to use as well. The tablet is used as a station during Guided Reading, so the students can stay engaged in their learning. Some of the scholars in my class do not have access to technology, such as computers or tablets, at home, so your donation of the tablet is helping these students to be technological literate. Parents have even reached out to me asking about different apps that they can download at home, since their children come home talking about the activities they do at school while using the tablet. Thank you for making all this learning and growth possible!”

This classroom project was brought to life by Google.org and 3 other donors.Mission: Alternative Seating
Funded Feb 14, 2017The students LOVE the yoga ball chairs! When I first introduced the idea of the new chairs, they were jumping up and down clapping with joy. They have never before had innovative resources in their classroom. The yoga ball chairs are keeping them focused and on task. Everyone has been eager to sit on them, even parents have been sending messages asking to visit and try out the new chairs. Other students in the building keep peeking in and ask to try out the chairs. So far, the yoga ball chairs have been used as both a proactive way to keep restless students engaged in academics, and as a reward for students who put forth a lot of effort or show kindness in the classroom! Thank you for making all of this possible in my classroom!”

Bilingual Books for Bilingual Kids
Funded Jan 13, 2017Your generous donations have brought my students so much excitement when it comes to reading! I have a few boys who are fluent in both Spanish and English, however their families only speak Spanish at home. Unfortunately, some of these boys are below grade level readers. Their families have reached out to me, because the family members want to support their son's reading skills, but they do not read in English. Since receiving these bilingual books, the boys have been able to bring home books that they can read along with their families. Parents are now able to understand what their son is reading, and can ask corresponding comprehension questions. Even boys who don't speak Spanish have been wanting to take these books home, because they think it is amazing that books can be written in more than one language. The boys who do speak Spanish have been reading the bilingual books to their peers, because everyone is now interested in learning Spanish due to the presence of these books. Thank you for helping me to get my students even more excited to take their reading and language skills to new levels!”
