I say thank you!!! Using the pencil pouches in this manner has given my students the opportunity to be more comfortable while borrowing a helmet, but even more importantly, they have increased their ability to become responsible for their items.
The pouches arrived just in time for our annual biking unit. The system that I was able to create gave each student more time on the bikes. It also gave me more time to help students learn to adjust their own helmet. More and more students are willingly wearing a helmet outside of school. I see that as a HUGE win!
Thanks again!”

Funded Jul 5, 2022Thank you so much for supporting our program. It definitely feels safer to practice hockey skills with padded blades!
My 3rd grade hockey player, Mac, shared a ,mixture of excited and curious at the choice of sticks. He asked me what the flex on the sticks was...ummm, none? I am still learning about this game so he will be my teacher.
Your willingness to fill in the giant gaps in education funding is so appreciated! I feel supported every time a donation is made to our students.
Thank you, again.”

You Spin Me Right 'Round
Funded Oct 4, 2021It is rare for a low income school like ours to receive a pie-in-the sky request like this. We am used to broken hoops and equipment that I can scrape up from a local thrift store. I am extra excited about the hoops because, thanks to you, I was able to purchase through GOPHER. The hoops are guaranteed not to kink...but if they do, GOPHER will replace them!
It feels great to offer my students the opportunity to learn with quality equipment. It is always with mixed feelings that I roll out low quality, nearly unusable, things for them to learn with. They deserve to play, but with equipment that says that they matter.
Thanks again for your generous support.”

Funded Sep 28, 2021We are so appreciative of your generosity. We are doing our best to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 and you were paramount in that effort. It's comforting to hear the sound of the sanitizer dispensing when children want a quick germ killer!
The masks were perfect for kiddos that were having a hard time keeping their nose covered. Teaching and learning in a mask is a new challenge that most of us getting through. Thank you for your willingness to help in that area.
I have mounted 4 sanitizer dispensers and they need to be refilled often! Far better than giving each child a squirt from a pump bottle!”

Funded May 8, 2020A huge thank you for the safety gear. As you probably suspect, they are still in new condition in my storage room. One of the main reasons that I am sad to be teaching from home is the skateboarding unit. This would have been our 3rd year and given the progress that I saw last year, I was excited to see how students were doing this year.
When we do get to go back to school, I will have a revolt on my hands if I don't get the skateboarding unit in quickly! The students did not complain when they had to use gear that was falling apart, but they will be able to experience more ease with gearing up using this new equipment.
I am submitting photos from previous years of our skateboarding unit. I hope that you enjoy them. The carts were built using custodial carts and reclaimed lumber by one of the parents at my school. This was only the first time a parent has done a big project for me. It was so appreciated. Just like your generosity.
Thank you again and stay safe!”

Funded Oct 8, 2019In my extra large classroom music is critical. I have been a teacher for over 20 years and half of those years have been in physical education. I have never used a whistle to get the attention of my students. I think they are harsh and they can send a student over the edge if they struggle with sensory overload. The gym is loud no matter how hard we try to keep it quiet so when the loud comes from pleasing music, it is much easier to handle!
The Bose speaker and Bluetooth receiver were such a gift! I had an old receiver that was failing and not having that technology was like stepping back a decade! Without it I could no longer control my start and stop signal without running to the other side of the gym. It is so important to be able to move around the space with the students and the receiver allowed me to do that even more than before!
Thank you for supporting the hard work that we do. Our children are so important and they deserve our best. thank you for allowing me to give mine.”

We are Climbing the Walls!
Funded Sep 16, 2019Your generosity is greatly appreciated! The photos that I uploaded include the repainting project that I took on when arriving at my school 4 years ago. Climbing walls are essential for strength, endurance, and motor planning. They are also dirt and grime magnets! I don't think these walls get cleaned often so this is the second school climbing wall that I have had the opportunity to paint and add a message to! These are our school rules and I want every child to see them often and to remember them.
After painting the wall it was clear that I did not have enough tall mats to keep students safe. This was the third attempt that I had made to reach full funding on this project so the arrival of the mats was even sweeter!
Thank you so much for believing in educators and for supporting my program. Without you, my students would have a much less rich education!”

Ms. LaFayette
Teaching and Learning Responsibility
Funded Jul 22, 2019Your generous spirit is so appreciated! Being able to organize and to teach my students the same isn't as exciting as bats and balls, but it is so needed. Thank you for showing us the importance of community support.
The jump rope rack was so needed at my school. Several years ago, I made one out of an IV cart and PVC. It had merits but not surprisingly, it did not last. It had been on my list of things to order one day...when money fell from the sky. Thanks for making that happen!
You can see some of our creative use of the jump ropes in some of the attached photos. These were from our cooperative games unit.
The step box cart is GREAT! I had used carts that were intended for different items just so I could wheel them around the gym when needed and so I could sweep under them. This is so much better! This cart was actually designed for the boxes that I have.
Thanks again for your support!”

Stella Got Her Grove Back!
Funded Dec 3, 2017Your generosity has given us so much flexibility and information at our fingertips! The iPad mini is used in our classroom on a daily basis. The photos that we shared show the Healthy Heart Obstacle Course. Some of the ways that we used the iPad during that unit include using apps (Team Shake, Explore the Heart in 3d and Plickers), showing videos (Exploring the Heart - The Circulatory System!) and measuring our heart rate.
We learned so much about how out circulatory system works. We even became blood cells and traveled through our heart, lungs and the rest of our bodies!
The bulletin board was a collaboration by our whole school; students AND staff. Everyone had to write one way that they increase their heart rates!
I was so sad when our technology was stolen from my office last spring. Thank you for helping me see that there are caring people supporting my students.”

Funded Mar 9, 2016We are having so much fun with our Sqords! This is the third year that I have had the pleasure of using Sqords with my 5th grade students. Each year I learn more about how to make this opportunity successful for my students. Last year I learned that receiving a new band color for every million points is a super cool status symbol! The most exciting thing this year is that we have many adults that are now wearing Sqords! Our teachers, principal, assistant principal and City Year volunteers are supporting and competing with the kids. It is so powerful to see the cyber high fives and positive messages that are running back and forth between students and between adults and children.
You have made it possible for more than 70 students and 20 adults to positively interact and learn about how to become healthier and happier.
Thank you, my heroes.”
With gratitude,
Ms. LaFayette
