  • Regulation Over Expectation

    Funded Dec 31, 2024

Thank you so much for providing the sensory materials for my students. They were super excited to see all the fidgets, journals, activities, beanbag chairs and other goodies come in. They explored everything and were incomplete shock of the donation.

This has already helped many students with their regulation within the small groups and individually.

Many students come in during their scheduled time and immediately gravitate to the sensory bins to help them focus on group. Some students come during my open blocks when feeling dysregulated and once they start finding a fidget that works for them, it's an immediate change in their voice, posture and feelings towards what may have caused them to be dysregulated.

These tools and materials have helped them become more focused when in group. However, most importantly when they come in dysregulated it has helped them become able to go back to class and learn.

Many of the students have enjoyed the en journals as they have expressed it's easier for them to write their feelings.

I am beyond thankful to have these sensory tools and materials to assist my students in being regulated to learn and use their strategies to be at their best.

Thanks again!! The students and myself are beyond grateful.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Hood

  • Food for Fuel

    Funded Feb 5, 2025

Thank you all so much for donating to my students. They truly will be so excited to know when they are hungry they can pop in and have a snack! They won’t sit in class with a rumbling stomach. Making sure they are fed is so vital to ensure they are alert and ready to learn.

I am truly appreciative for the donations and for you all ruling me fulfill this cause.”

  • Visualizing and Verbalizing

    Funded Aug 27, 2024

This project is one I'm very passionate about. I have many students have difficulties with recalling information presented to them orally. Often times I hear students say I can't remember what I read. This is also related to not visualizing the words. Through the use of the program called visualizing and verbalizing I have been working on their working memories and recalling skills. This program helps students break down the steps of how one would visualize words or sentences when reading or when someone is reading to them. We start out with one word and gradually move up the hierarchy to phrases, sentences and then to whole chapters and books. My goal is to increase their ability to visualize these readings in order to increase their vocabulary, comprehension, recall and most importantly their confidence. Having access to these materials has increased my ability to help them in more ways and opportunities through the activity books and lessons plans. The visuals also in this project have helped students with visualizing their day to day activities as well. The daily calendar was helpful for students who needed assistance in visualizing their week. All these skills are related to students executive functioning. Skills many of our students need to work on and practice using strategies to strengthen weaknesses.

Again, thank you for donating to this favorite project of mine! I already see an impact on the students!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Hood

  • Game On!

    Funded Jul 16, 2024

This project has been able to help my students be more of an active participant in groups. These games got them thinking, working in groups, problem solving and having fun! I chose many games that did not require a lot of reading as this is a skill many are still learning. In the past my games required high reading skills so to be able to have more games that everyone could access is making a huge difference this school year! The students are also so excited to try out all the new games as well! Thank you so much for making this happen!

Some of these games are played in my social groups where working together is hard or feel awkward. I hope to continue to build these skills for each student with the games that were purchased.

I also have many students who need to work on executive functioning skills. The games purchased will also allow us to work on planning, organizing, problem solving, inhibition and emotional control during game play. So many great skills to learn!

I'm looking forward to play taco/burrito with some groups who enjoy card games and thinking games. I also have loved playing scattergories with some of the students already! It's been such a challenge with laughter.

Thanks again for helping my classroom out!”

  • Sensory Regulation

    Funded May 2, 2024

This project was a huge impact on my students as they often can be dysregulated right before speech groups and sometimes during.

Everyone's ability to regulate is different. One fidget that works for you may not work for someone else. It was so important for me to have sensory options for each student. This project allowed me to offer them different ways to regulate and to learn new ways to regulate their sensory needs. This then gave them the ability to increase their focus and learning in each session.

When the box arrived the students were so excited and explored all the fidgets. Many of them loved the squishy sensory balls and the breathing ball. A few students were amazed by the sensory caterpillar and loved making them wiggle.

I use the fidgets as an open policy. They are on the table for anyone to use during the session. Often they are swapped out during the session as students want to try them

all out. Some students incorporated them within a game. During more complex activities it has helped one student be a more active participant. She was able to concentrate more on her fidget while answering questions about the story. She typically preferred not to answer or participate due to feeling anxious. This was a huge milestone for her. And it was so great to see her be present during the session.

Thank you for taking the time to look at my project and see the value in it. I'm truly grateful for the donation.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Hood

I am a Speech Language Pathologist in a low income, inner-city school district. I work in the middle school setting where students are seen in small group setting. Their diagnoses range from Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, Intellectual and Neurological disabilities, Executive Functioning, Language deficits and articulation errors. The students I service are the most inspiring students I have ever worked with in my career. They come from different backgrounds and stories of the life. They often have stories from their life's journey beyond what many of us have or will see. With everything they have seen and overcome, they are always eager to learn, excited to demonstrate their growth and are always proud of their accomplishments. They truly are an inspiration to me as I watch them grow. I come to work every day knowing they impact me daily to do better and be better. I love what I do because of these students.
