The Great Cupcake Challenge
Funded Jan 26, 2015Thank you for providing us with all of these delicious resources. My students loved our cupcake reading challenge. They read a lot of new books and the books kept them engaged and wanting to read.
We using a program called Accelerated Reader. Students read books and then take comprehension tests on the books. All of the books chosen for this project are AR books and students were able to increase their AR points. They were so excited to have new books to help them reach new goals. In addition to the books, you gave us materials to make cupcakes. We used our cupcakes tins and wrappers to bake cupcakes to celebrate reaching our goals during our reading challenge. We had a lot of fun with the resources that came with this project.
Thank you for seeing value in the project. This will be a reading challenge I will give to my students each year.”

Funded Jan 9, 2015We had a wonderful week full of literacy projects. We read Dr. Seuss books, dressed up as book characters, had a morning of rotating stations, and were treated to reader's theater performances.
Thank you for donating the Dr. Seuss pencils, pointers, stickers, and erasers. I have been giving out everything as rewards for hard work during our literacy week. The stickers are being used for our reading challenge. Every time a student reads a Dr. Seuss book, he/she puts a sticker on a striped Cat-in-the-Hat hat. They love being challenged to read as many books as possible. The pencils, erasers and pencil grips are all supplies that we are using daily in class. Having engaging Dr. Seuss characters on the pencils and other supplies makes learning more fun.
Thank you believing in this project and providing materials that keep students interested and engaged in learning.”

A Place For Everything And Everything In Its Place
Funded Jan 6, 2015We love our new bookshelf and storage boxes! Our classroom feels so organized and colorful. Thank you for providing us with all of these wonderful materials.
My students we thrilled when the boxes came from Lakeshore, delivering our bookshelf and boxes. They helped open up the boxes and set up our classroom. We now have a place to store and easily access our clipboards, whiteboards, books and journals. Before they were in piles on the floor. It was messy and disorganized. Now our room feels clean and inviting.
Thank you for making our classroom environment a better place to work and learn.”

A Little Bit Of This, A Little Bit Of That -
Funded Dec 9, 2014Thank you for funding all the replacement art supplies we were desperately needing. I am amazed at how quickly my class goes through paper and paints. We use construction paper for so many different activities such as art projects, folders, and creating books. This year my students have been writing stories and illustrating in them into books. They have been enjoying the colored construction paper as it has made writing and illustrating much more fun.
The staples, staple gun, goggly eyes and glue gun are all materials that are in great need for a variety of projects. Our walls are very hard to penetrate with a traditional stapler. The staple gun will be used to hang posters and student work. The goggly eyes and glue gun will be used for various project throughout the year such as puppet making and Mother's day projects.
Thank you for providing our classroom with so many wonderful art supplies. I am glad we will be able to finish off the year without the worry of running out.”

Teach For The Planet Through Life Science
Funded Dec 8, 2014I am truly overwhelmed by the number of people who gave to this project. My students and I are very excited about our new school mural, the bird houses and the baby quail.
Over the last few weeks I have been working with a group of students on creating events for our mural to celebrate our school's sesquicentennial (150 year anniversary). Going through historical and scientific events over the last 150 years was an amazing process. Students learned a lot about our history, local, statewide and worldwide. Narrowing down which events would go on the mural was challenging. We had a lot of great discussions about what should be included so they we could represent history and science in a balanced way.
The quail eggs will be incubated in the spring. My students were thrilled to see the incubator. They cannot wait to see the little quail emerge from their shells.
The bird houses will be another school wide project. Students will decorate the birdhouses which will be put up in our garden. Our garden will have an artistic looks while proving a great habitat for our local wildlife.
Thank you for supporting this project. We are very excited about all the amazing art and science projects we will be doing with the supplied materials.”

Funded Jan 19, 2015Our ink cartridges arrived and I was able to breath a sigh a relief. We were on our last ink cartridge and I was worried we would run out of ink before we had replacement cartridges. Thanks to you donors and Quill for quickly funding this project; we are able to keep our classroom up and running without pausing to wait for the ink to be replaced.
We use our printer daily. It is used to print games, resources, homework and reading reports. This week we are having parent conferences and I have been running reports to share with parents. It is a great feeling to know that we will not run out this precious commodity, ink!
Thank you for making such a huge impact with what seems to be such a mundane item. It is an essential item that keeps our classroom engaging and efficient.”

Funded Oct 28, 2014Thank you for providing us with a class set of headphones. They have been a huge hit with the students, and teacher.
We use a lot of computer programs that require students to listen to directions or a story. When 19 students were trying to listen to their individual lesson on the computer, it became very noisy and chaotic. Having headphones allows my students to listen to content without disturbing others.
Another great feature of headphones is they block out sound. Whenever students are using the headphones, they are totally engrossed in their task as they are not distracted by the noises others make. This has made for a much more focused group of students.
Thank you for providing these wonderful headphones!
Happy New Year!”

Practice Makes Pefect
Funded Oct 30, 2014You saved us! We were in crisis! My students started using MobyMax at the beginning of the school year, and after a month of trying the program, out trial subscription ran out! Boy were my students mad at me! I didn't realize how much they valued using the program. As soon as I found out they wanted to continue using MobyMax, I wrote a project. I am very grateful that you all funded the project so quickly.
MobyMax is wonderful as it practices skills in all different subjects. Each day my students are given an assignment to complete. Once they complete their assignment, they can choose another subject to study. As students are working on skills, they earn game time. On Friday, they can cash in their game time and play games. I love how motivating the program is, and how it practices skills at the same time.
Another huge benefit to having the full MobyMax program is it allows me to run diagnostic reports. Having these reports allows me to see the strengths and weaknesses of my students. It allows me to tailor my curriculum and lessons to meet my students' need.
Thank you for providing this wonderful tool.”

Art Supplies For Second/Third Grade Classroom
Funded Oct 7, 2014I am so thrilled that you funded this project for art supplies. I have ordered a bunch odd and end items such as puppets, canvas bags and burlap. I am excited to use these materials with my students so they can participate in art using different mediums.
The canvas bags will be used for one of my all time favorite projects, making reusable totes. We will use fabric paint and make handprint pictures of flowers and animals on the totes. Students will make these for Christmas and give the totes to their parents as their Christmas present. While we are creating art and we will also be discussing the importance of using reusable bags.
This school year we are focusing on the Magic Tree House books. We are focusing on story elements, analyzing text and delving into the character analysis. The puppets are for the students to create their own Jack and Annie puppets, the main characters in the stories.
Thank you for supporting our project and providing us with such needed supplies.”

Funded Sep 29, 2014We are truly enjoying our Scholastic New Magazines. With the new Common Core Standards, these magazines are perfect to help us meet the standards. The magazines are informational text so they are giving my students engaging information to read. They are practicing reading and comprehension skills while reading the magazines.
The other thing I like about the magazine subscription is Scholastic provides a lot of supplemental teaching materials with each magazine. Students are responsible for responding to expository text, comparing and contrasting, and using titles and headings to make meaning of the information. Building these skills has been challenging as this is a new way of learning, but they have made my students think differently. I love that they are reasoning, justifying, and debating.
The Scholastic Magazines are colorful and have engaging pictures. My students have loved every article they have read. They have learned a lot of new content that our reading program doesn't provide. We have had a lot of great discussions using the magazine articles as a springboard.
Thank you for providing these amazing magazines for my students.”
