Organizing Our Classroom
Funded Aug 13, 2018Thank you for funding our project for storage bins. They arrived at the perfect time, the week before school started. My classroom is in a temporary portable building. My school had a fire in 2016 and my entire classroom was lost. The portable is a quick fix for our classroom, but it is lacking in storage.
The bins and trays you provided to my students have made the beginning of the year start off organized. We have colorful trays placed around the room so students have a place to put their papers and supplies. Having a proper place for all the papers and supplies has made our classroom efficient, organized and colorful.
Thank you for supplying us with such simple items, but items that are in such great need.”

Odds and Ends
Funded Sep 6, 2018Our supplies for our Odds and Ends project have arrived. Included in our shipment was ink, tape dispensers, paint, Sharpies and Expo markers. We use all of these materials on a regular basis and we were finding our supplies were running low. Thank you for refilling our supplies.
We use the ink daily for our classroom printer. We print homework, games and resources that are added to our interactive journals. The Expo markers are used daily for our math seat work. Students use the markers to show their work which I can see from all areas of the room. I can then provide immediate feedback or make changes to my instruction based on student responses. The staplers will be placed at the table groups so students can staple their own pages together so they can continue be independent workers.
The paints and tape will be used for various projects throughout the year.
Thank you for your generosity. We all appreciate your contribution to our classroom to keep it efficient and effective.”

Funded May 10, 2018Thank you for funding our project for our classroom store. We have a token economy and students are rewarded with classroom money that they can spend at our classroom store.
The paper money will be given to students as a reward for good behavior, turning in work on time, and being a good citizen. The snacks and school supplies will be placed in our store. Each week students go to store and spend their money. The money, snacks, toys and school supplies were requested so we could replace our stock and keep our store up and running.
Thank you for generosity by funding our project. My students love going to the store and the items you donated to our class will keep students motivated to be good school citizens.”

Funded May 10, 2018Thank you for funding our project for a MacBook. MacBooks are amazing computers. They are user friendly and provide a great tool for accessing websites, for creating writings and for making great slideshows and videos.
My students use computers daily to access web based websites. They practice math, take reading comprehension tests and are presented with content to learn science topics. Having an easy to use computer makes accessing these websites efficient. Students save a lot of time when they have a tool that makes their work easily accessible.
In addition to using the computer for daily skill practice, students will use the computer to create the yearbook. Our yearbook is created on the computer and having this MacBook will make navigating the webpages easier.
Thank you for your generous donation to our classroom. This computer will be well loved and used by many students for years.”

Funded Jan 25, 2018Thank you for funding our project for sewing supplies. I was pleasantly surprised at how excited my students were to have supplies so they can sew.
We have used the sewing machine, fabric and beans to make bean bags. This year students will sell the bean bags to students. The money raised from the bean bags will be used to fund extra curricular projects like the school garden. Students will be learning money management while managing the bean bag store.
In addition to using the materials to fundraiser, the bean bags will be used to learn new p.e. games and strategies. Students will learn traditional games like hopscotch and games in p.e. that require them to learn a new skill.
Thank you for donation. I know my students will enjoy this project; I have done this project before and they have truly enjoyed the process.”

Funded Jan 25, 2018Thank you for funding our classroom project for a photo printer and paper. This printer has come in handy as it allows us to snap photos and then immediately print them. No more waiting to have them processed at the store!
My students use the photos in a variety of ways. One is we take pictures of our daily routines and activities and post them around the room. My students (and their parents) love to see the photos! The other way we use the photos is to glue them into our interactive journals and write about what was happening in the picture. The captions become personal and their writing becomes better as they have something they can relate to when writing. I love that the pictures are a means to getting quality writing from my students.
Thank you for providing us with such a great resource. We have been using the mini printer this year and my students have loved the immediacy. The printer is easy to use, and it is portable. I can take it anywhere, even if there is no wifi, as it is bluetooth compatible. This feature has opened up the door to taking our classroom outdoors to using the photos on field trips, in the garden and in our orchard.”

Funded Dec 22, 2017Thank you for your generous donation. Our project for p.e. equipment was fully funded and my students are a having a great time using all the new balls, jump ropes and tetherball.
Our school suffered from a school fire last year. We currently are in portables on our playground, which has decreased the play area in half. The materials requested in this project were chosen so students could have equipment that could be used safely in a small space. The tetherball are great since the tetherball poles are placed strategically between the temporary classrooms. The jump ropes and other playground balls are perfect for our small playground setting. They allow kids to play games and exercise without there being a lot of play space.
Thank you for providing us with these needed materials. My students have been playing traditional games and they have also been creating their own games. I love that they are creative and make up new ways to play.”

Funded Jan 25, 2018We have started our prep work for state testing. It can be very rigorous. In order to keep students engaged and motivated, we have a carnival after testing is completed. The materials in this project are for tickets and prizes to be used at the carnival.
Currently adults are giving out tickets to students for good behavior, for attentiveness, for completing work on time, and for effort. We use a web based assessment site, and students use it to practice answering questions based on content standards. The questions are very difficult, but with practice, encouragement and rewards, students tackle the practice with enthusiasm. Our 3rd graders have been very successful with the testing the last two years. I attribute a lot of their success to our tickets/carnival program.
Once the testing is complete, we have a carnival. We hold the carnival on the primary playground so the 2nd graders see what they have in store for them. When the 2nd graders start 3rd grade, the one thing they talk about all year is the carnival.
The carnival is a lot of fun. Parents come for the day and set up stations. There are food stations (popcorn and snow cones) and a raffle. The tickets are spent at these stations. There are also games to play,. If a student wins a game, he/she earns a different ticket to buy a prize. When the carnival is over, students exchange their earned game tickets for prizes. They have seen the prizes that were ordered in the project, the squishes, snacks, toys and water bottles, and they are excited to earn tickets. I have already seen a change in their efforts in class.
Thank you for allowing us to have another carnival this year. My students have been talking about the carnival since the beginning of the school year. They are eager to earn tickets which means they are working hard in school.”

Funded Jan 25, 2018Thank you for funding our project for supplies for our interactive notebooks. We use our notebooks ever day for science, math and language arts. We go through a lot of paper and ink to add notes and reference materials to the journals. I requested paper and ink to help us get through the rest of the year.
The pens and other colorful supplies are used to personalize the journals. Students add thumbnail sketches, decorate pages and take notes in different pen colors. By doing this, students take ownership of their journals and utilize and reference the journals more since they are organized and colorful.
The Post-it Notes, label maker tape and notecards are placed in our notebooks for a variety of reasons. They labels are used to partition off the different sections of the notebooks. The Post-it Notes are used as tabs for quick reference and the notecards are used to add content to the notebooks.
Thank you for your generosity. Thank you for providing the supplies that will help my students be more engaged and organized in their work.”

Funded Jan 13, 2018Thank you for funding our project for promoting health and fitness. This project requested various p.e. supplies and they have all gone to good use already.
One of the materials my students were thrilled about were the water bottles. Because of a school fire last year, my classroom has been relocated to a portable building, which doesn't have running water. We do have water jugs and cups in the classroom, but the cups have taken over our lives. They are wasteful, the cause more trash and students play with them. Having water bottles will cut down on all of these problems.
The other supplies, games, rewards, and stopwatches, will be used for our fitness program. The games are being used to engage kids in p.e. activities in a different way. The awards are being used to reward students for meeting fitness goals.
Thank you for your generosity. My students are enjoying all the supplies and are enjoying all the new, engaging p.e. activities.”
