Kindle a Love for Reading
Funded Jan 27, 2014I want to thank you for your generosity in supporting my class Kindle project this year. My students were so very excited to receive them. When the box was delivered to my classroom, there were shrieks of excitement, wide eyes, big smiles, clapping, etc. They couldn't wait to get their hands on them.
We used the Kindles for quite a few different things. Of course my students used them for reading books that we didn't have in our library. They were especially helpful to my students who competed in the county Battle of the Books competition. In addition, students were able to take AR tests on them when they finished reading a book. This was nice because before the Kindles, we had 31 students sharing two classroom computers to take tests. My students also used the Kindles for research. Most recently, they used them to research about Greek gods and goddesses for social studies, and in science they used them to research for their biome projects. Some students even used them to improve their art by searching for real life pictures to use for their pointillism projects.
Overall, the Kindles have been a huge asset to my classroom. I was able to allow several advanced students to use them to work on Accelerated Math during math time. They were extremely happy to be able to move ahead and work on more challenging math. I was also able to inspire some students to work harder to finish their work by using the Kindles as a reward. On Fridays, I allowed students who had finished all of their work for the week, to play educational games for a little bit. One of the favorite games was Free Flow which is a puzzle/strategy game.
Thank you so much for you generosity. Be sure that many students to come will enjoy these Kindles.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Aranda
