Reading With Rebels
Funded May 24, 2019Reading can be either a delightful experience or a tiresome chore. Having a great selection of engaging literature can make it much more enjoyable. Many of my students have never actually finished an entire book before they make it to my classroom. Reading takes many forms with my students. We engage in both group and independent reading. We have lively literature circles as well as silent read-o-thons. The selections provided in this project will be used in whole group lessons with the hope that students will be encouraged to continue looking for and reading books that relate to their life experiences.
My students were so excited about the books for our classroom library that we have written an additional project. If funded, these books will provide beautiful children's literature that we can use for our Bell-Ringer activities.
Thank you again for your generous donations.”

This classroom project was brought to life by Google.org and 10 other donors.Tablets for Teens
Funded Oct 7, 2015Completion of this project has allowed me to reflect on some my practices in the classroom. In an effort to improve student learning I hope to be able to incorporate the use of these Kindles in my classroom for literature circles. Print books are so expensive, and are easily damaged or lost. The Kindles provide students access to a much wider variety of literature for use in the classroom as well as out of the classroom. Generous donors such as yourselves have allowed my students the opportunity to experience literature through technology.”

"Fired" Up for ESL
Funded Dec 19, 2014Thank you so much for your generous contribution to my classroom. My students have been able to access reading material, for our literature circles, through the use of the Kindles. In several of my classes we do not have enough copies of the book we are using to make a complete classroom set, forcing students to share their books. The Kindles have been particularly helpful in these classes.
During our recent literature circles we were able to download a copy of the book to each of the four Kindles and students learned to highlight and bookmark while reading. As a result of this experience, I have requested the purchase of five additional Kindles through our Land Trust funds, and hope to write an additional Donors Choose project.
Although nothing can replace the tactile experience of holding an actual book, I feel my students will greatly benefit by using modern technology in the classroom.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Tanner
