It All Adds Up To Success
Funded Sep 4, 2013My students are very excited to use the wonderful new materials for math. They always ask me when we are going to use the sand clock timer again; they love the Pop and Add games, and they enjoy the geoboard design center. I am using the materials daily during math centers. I have a center for learning shapes where the students use the geoboards and the pattern block activity cards, another is the number sense center and place value where the students work with a partner to match the cards; and there is also the writing center where the students are learning to write the numbers using the giant tracing numbers. When the students are rotating in centers, they love to see the sand clock and tell each other "we are running out of time!" These materials have motivated my students to learn math skills such as number sense, shape identification, place value, writing numbers, and addition.
I am very thankful for your donations and my kindergarteners really appreciate your kindness!”

Funded Apr 12, 2013I am so thankful for your donations to my project "Readers Are Leaders". My students have been using the "First Little Readers" and "I Can Read" books during reading centers. I divided my students in 3 different groups according to their reading skills and they all used the 3 series of leveled books.
They have been writing daily, also. I modeled how to write the sentences on the big magnetic writing pad. The students also get a chance to write their sentences on the pad. We have been using the lined paper on a daily basis to create letters, greeting cards, and record their reading comprehension from books the students read.
Thanks to your support, my students are more excited to read and write during small group instruction and they have increased their phonics, phonemic awareness, and decoding skills. God bless you!”

Technology for High Achievement
Funded Nov 8, 2012Thank you so much for your generous donations to support my project! Now my students have technology that allows them to learn in a new, exciting way. We are using the CD player to follow along in stories. The kindergarteners like to listen as the books are read aloud to them. I use the DVD/VHS player to play educational videos for math, reading, and also for physical exercise. I am able to take pictures of my students work and show their progress to their parents with the new digital camera. Thank you again for your support!!”

Footsteps to Reading Success
Funded Oct 3, 2012Thank you for giving my students the opportunity to have access to the collection of Gail Gibbons books. My children are continuously improving their phonemic awareness, vocabulary, phonics, and reading comprehension. They love animals so they are very excited to learn about the different types of animals and look at the illustrations in the book. These books correlate with the new common core reading standards since they are non-fiction books. The kindergarteners follow up the listening center by writing in their journals about facts they have learned in the book. Again, thank you very much for your support!”

Funded Aug 7, 2012Thank you for donating to "Helping the Little Ones Succeed". This is my first project funded through Donors Choose. My students and I are very excited to use the new computer and pencil sharpener in the classroom. The Acer computer is being used the minute the students arrive to my class every day, and also during reading, math, and science centers. The websites used for reading are Starfall.com and myOn. For Math, they are using Envision Math and ST Math. We are participating in a friendly competition with the other kindergarten classroom as to who has the more syllabus done in ST Math. For science, my students access Science Fusion and learn about the units we are learning, such as Animals and Plants. They also have access to virtual labs. The use of the computer in my class is essential for my little ones to increase skills such as: phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, comprehension, number identification, number sense, place value, etc. Children are audio-visual learners and the use of the computer help them learn in a fun and exciting way. We use the pencil sharpener on a daily basis. My students love to write, draw and color. We have Guided Reading Journals, Math Journals, Writing, and Science Journals. As they gain fine motor skills using pencils in their journals, they are discovering the wonderful world of writing in all subjects areas. Thank you for helping me provide my students with the technology and tools necessary to be successful in my classroom!”
