Table to Teach Small Group Reading!
Funded Aug 21, 2015Thank you so much for donating to my classroom project for a new kidney table for small group teaching. This table has been one of the best additions to our class that we have ever had donated. We use this table throughout so much of our day. It comfortably fits 6 - 8 students which is perfect for teaching small groups. We now have a space for students to fit during foundational skills practice, guided reading, and small group math. The kids are able to have their own space to sit and plenty of table room to work on in front of them. They are learning so much and it is so great to have a space to learn in. Thank you again for your generosity!”

This classroom project was brought to life by Quill.com FY15 and one other donor.Let's Learn Through Play! Math Games for Kinder!
Funded May 11, 2015Thank you so much for your generous donation. This project has really helped improve our classroom. This year is the first year that we have started doing small group math intervention groups. During these small groups, we have two groups that are with teachers and two groups that are working independently. The independent groups now have these awesome centers activities to work on. Not only are the math centers engaging, but they are beneficial to the students learning as well. They now have additional and meaningful practice with the skills we are teaching during the day. The joy they have when using these math centers is contagious. Thank you again for your generosity!”

Comfy Carpet for Kindergarten!
Funded Jul 2, 2015Thank you so much for your donation! This carpet has been such an awesome addition to our classroom. It is so bright and instantly inspires joy. The students really love it. We now have an additional spot to teach small group lessons which also helps us reach even more students effectively. It is also one of the favorite rest spots in the room. Not only do the students love it, but it is one of the first things that anyone notices when they enter our room. We have had so many comments about how they just want to lay down on it because it is so nice and inviting. It makes our classroom really look and feel just like you would want kindergarten to! Thank you again for your generosity.”

Books, Books, and More Books!
Funded Dec 30, 2014My students were so excited when we received all of the books from our donor's choose project. Before we brought them out, we built up suspense by telling them that we had a great surprise for them. When we revealed the books, everyone was over the moon excited. Some comments were, "These are amazing!" "Are these all for us?" "Can I read them now?" and much more! It was so exciting to see such joy coming from books.
They use all of these books every day during their guided reading time and this has helped them be more invested in this reading time. We are seeing great gains in their reading and in their love for books. I can't say thank you enough!”

Rockin' Into the New School Year!
Funded Aug 24, 2014Thank you so much for your donations to this project! Our students were so excited to get these materials. We made a big deal about how special our new materials were before the students even got to see them. When we finally revealed the seat sacks, our students were amazed. They said things like, "Now we're just like the big kids" because the older students have seat sacks as well. They embraced them as their own and have since brought in their own pencils, erasers, and other materials that they can keep safe in their own seat sacks. When we brought out the cushions, the kids could barely contain their excitement. They thought that these cushions were the coolest things ever. They loved all of the colors and were excited to go to independent reading to get their chance to use these special cushions.
The seat sacks have helped with organization tremendously. We now have a place to put each student's materials and handouts to ensure every student is getting what they need. They also have a spot to put books that are at their own level so that in any free moment they have, they can be reading. This system also saves us time, so we have more time on task.
These materials have been a much appreciated addition to our classroom and students as well as teachers have been benefiting from them. Thank you again for your generosity!”

This classroom project was brought to life by Gates Foundation Back To School and 5 other donors.Materials Needed!!!
Funded Apr 1, 2014Thank you for your generous donations. My students have been so excited to use all of these new materials. We just finished a research unit on animals and these were books that were on their level that they were excited to read from and learn from. We now know so much more about eagles, horses and snakes and the students are the first to share the facts that they have learned. Now, we are using the space books in another nonfiction unit and once again the students were beyond excited to see the brand new books. They are now engaged in their learning and can tell you so many cool things about space and astronauts. The headphones are used daily and they not only work great, but the children think they look cool too! Without your donations, none of this would have been possible! Thank you again for the impact you have made!”

This classroom project was brought to life by 100 Women in Hedge Funds and 5 other donors.Technology for tomorrow!!!
Funded Dec 18, 2013Thank you so much for your donation to our project, Technology for tomorrow. Since we have received our projector and document camera, we have been using them daily! Our students reactions were priceless. Here are just a few to share: "This is sooooo cool!" "Awesome!" "I can see!" "Ms. Murphy, how did you do this?" Overall, they absolutely loved getting the package!
In our day to day class, we use the projector A LOT! There are 26 students in the class, so it isn't always easy for them to see. The projector has eliminated that problem. We can put books for read aloud under the document camera and project them onto the board to provide a more interactive experience. In social studies and science, we have been showing videos from BrainPop and other educational videos found on YouTube to round out their understanding of Martin Luther King Jr, Ruby Bridges, and what it means to be a scientist. During shared reading time, students can come up to the white board and underline different sight words they know, circle nouns and verbs they see, and "be the teacher" as the other students read along. It has expanded our horizons for learning.
Now, we can give our students more modes of learning to ensure every students learning style is being addressed. We also have access to videos and virtual manipulatives that help our students understand the content more fully. Our students are learning more and are more engaged in their learning!”
