  • Creating a Calming Classroom

    Funded Sep 23, 2021

The supplies from this project have really helped create a positive classroom culture. The sticker charts keep students engaged and excited to earn a visit to the prize box. My students know the classroom routines and expectations thanks to the "I Can Do It" chart.

The communication cards help my nonverbal students make choices and participate with their peers.

The equipment bin keeps our flexible seating and playground balls safe when not in use.

The number and alphabet robots are a big hit! They are great for students who finish work early, preferred activities, and practicing teamwork.

Thank you for supporting my students and making this school year great!”

  • Storage For an Empty Classroom

    Funded Aug 12, 2021

The shelving units, book storage, and media cart have been immensely helpful this school year. The items help our classroom stay organized and accessible for all.

My students enjoy exploring the books in our library area. The bins help keep books organized by theme.

The media cart allows me to display videos from my laptop onto the wall for all to see. There is plenty of room for the projector, document camera, and paper for me to write on. I will be adding a printer to the bottom section soon!

Thank you for your generous support. Happy New Year.”

  • iPads for Primary SDC

    Funded Jan 8, 2020

I always knew I was going to become a teacher. I took a few detours, but eventually I found the right path. I loved school, from preschool through college. It was not always easy; I wasn’t the smartest, but I worked hard. My 3rd grade teacher is the one who inspired me the most. She went above and beyond to keep us motivated, engaged, and maximizing our potential. When I made the commitment to become a special education teacher, I knew I would have the same mentality. Teaching is not an 8-2 job with summers off; it is all consuming. That doesn’t mean I am up all night thinking about my class, it means I am continuously looking for ways to reach my students and take them a step up from where they currently are. This is why I use DonorsChoose to reach out to generous people like you. Your generosity provides my students with the tools they need to make learning more fun, accessible, and engaging.”

  • No Horsing Around the Horseshoe Table!

    Funded Aug 6, 2019

After a couple weeks of missing items, our beautiful whiteboard table is now setup and in use. The students love to work on it, and still aren't used to the fact that they are encouraged to write on the table!

So far, we have used the table to solve math problems, write numbers, and spell words. There is plenty of room for my small groups to work. I hope the excitement of working at the whiteboard table never goes away!

I have seen a lot of teamwork and kindness around our new table from students partnering up to complete the same equation to older peers helping younger peers work on their handwriting.

Thank you for continuing to support our classroom!”

  • Work Hard, Play Hard

    Funded Aug 13, 2019

My students love the new equipment we got, thanks to you! It is very cool watching them learn how to use the swing ball and catch-a-ball. Both activities take lots of coordination, so when they succeed, the smiles on their faces are priceless.

It is also great to see the sportsmanship and teamwork between students as they use the basketballs, footballs, and playground balls. My taller students help my littler ones shoot hoops. My students get a kick out of it when I join in on a game of one-on-one, or throw a football across the playground.

Without your support, these relationship building moments would not be possible!”

  • Boogie Board Bonanza

    Funded Feb 18, 2019

The Boogie Board writers that you helped bring to our classroom are a hit! We use them in a variety of ways: whole class instruction, small group work, and independently.

The best thing I've noticed with the boards is students taking initiative by grabbing a board when they are working on challenging math problems. Before they would just sit and struggle until I could come over to assist. Students are taking responsibility for their own learning, which can be a challenge in a special education setting.

My students are proud of the work they accomplish on the boards, and to me, that is priceless!”

  • Mobile Desks for Flexible Classroom

    Funded May 11, 2018

I waited all summer for my students to use these desks; they were definitely worth the wait! The desks move around smoothly and are very sturdy when the wheels are locked. Everyone has a clear view of the projection screen, which makes life easier for us all. My favorite set up of the desks is a semi-circle for our small group rotations where I am able to sit in the middle. I can be face to face with each student; I feel like an octopus because I can help at least 3 kids at one time! Our flexible seating options from a previous DonorsChoose project fit perfectly with the desks as well. These funded projects have truly taken our learning environment to the next level, so thank you all for your kindness and generosity.”

  • Flex Your Body, Grow Your Mind

    Funded Feb 26, 2018

"I'm so excited, I could cry!" and "I can't believe you got these for us!" are just a couple of the reactions I got when my students walked into the classroom to see on new seats for the first time. There were lots of hugs and smiles.

These new flex seating options that were made possible by you have already had such a positive impact on our classroom. I immediately saw 15 students with more focus and attention. Behaviors have decreased as well. I no longer have to remind kids to sit on their bottom or to sit up.

I have also seen a lot of kindness and sharing. Throughout the day kids as trading very nicely; one person with a bouncy ball may want a wobble stool, so someone will step up and offer to trade. I was worried there would be some disagreements, but everyone has been respectful and responsible.

Thank you for supporting our class!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Montgomery

  • Cuckoo for Chromebooks

    Funded Jul 14, 2017

Due to your generosity, the beginning of our school year has been filled with excitement, curiosity, and learning. Since introducing the students to our brand new Chromebooks, they have taken an interest in what they can do on them. We began by logging onto ABCMouse, a program they are all familiar with. They navigated the site with ease, following along to stories, practicing letter sounds, and adding numbers. Our instructional aide and I appreciated the absence of groans and frustration caused by faulty desktop computers.

As the students become more familiar with the Chromebooks, we will use them to research animals, historical figures, and the world around us. This year, our school purchased a license to IXL Learning. With this program, our students are able to work on math at their individual level. While all the other classrooms have to share iPad and Chromebook carts, our students have access to IXL at any given moment. This allows me to work one-on-one with students, while those working independently are taking responsibility for their own learning.

Words cannot express my gratitude and appreciation for all of you who donated from near and far. With your support, I believe our students can achieve great things.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Montgomery
