Making Mathematicians
Funded Aug 1, 2019You should have seen the look on my students faces when the packages arrived and they realized they were getting new materials and games that they will be able to use this year. What a wonderful moment to see all the excitement and smiles on their faces. We are using many of these materials for small group stations in which children are working with partners or in groups to solve the problems. As for the pick a problem each day a new child goes the box and picks a random question that the students try to solve as a table group and turn in their answer. Then we go over the question. They love being the person who gets to pick the question from the box and get so excited to see what the question is going to be on. As for some of the materials we haven't used them yet because we haven't taught that material yet. For example, anything to do with fractions we haven't done so the children are excited to be able to do some of these things when we get to teaching that concept. As for the materials we have used we will continue to use as stations and especially at the end of the year again when we review for the EOGs. We would like to thank you so much for helping us making learning memorable and fun.”

Funded Aug 1, 2019Talk about excitement. That is all I can say when the children saw the packages arrive to our classroom. They wanted to open the package, see what was inside, and then of course the next question was can we play them or use it now. We have used some of the materials during small groups so far especially at the teacher table. These materials have really helped the children not only with their reading but if they are comprehending what they have read. So many times children think reading is just being able to read the words but what they don't understand is that they have to be able to understand the words and what the story is talking about. We plan to use all of these materials throughout the year in small groups and really boost their comprehension to not only prepare them for the third grade EOGs but for their entire life as a reader. Thank you again for all the great materials and we can't wait to use them all throughout the year.”

Funded Mar 14, 2018Wow! We love reading scholastic news. Thank you so much for helping us get this for our classroom. The children have loved to read and learn about different events that are happening around the world. They are taking these home with them and sharing with their families things they have read and learned about. Many of the children get so excited when it's Scholastic News day because they can't wait to see what they are learning about in their magazine. Many of the children have never seen a newspaper or magazine in my classroom so this itself is exciting for them. They also really love the videos that tell more about each section of the Scholastic news and watching them really sparks an interest. Again thank you for helping engage my students in learning and reading.”

Fractions Are Fun
Funded Mar 27, 2018Fractions are one of the most difficult things for third graders to understand because they have very little knowledge about fractions before coming to third grade. With your help we have engaged children in fractions and made learning this concept enjoyable for them using the manipulatives you sent our classroom. Children are learning fractions with hands on materials and this makes learning fun and something they can remember. Our classroom has really enjoyed the fraction games, smart board review game, and the dry-erase number line boards for fractions. Thank you again for helping us make fractions fun in our classroom.”

Funded Mar 27, 2018Thank you so much for the Time for Kids. The children have already enjoyed reading them and learning about different concepts in them. They are great for those children who have never seen a magazine and/or newspaper and my classroom has enjoyed taking them home and sharing what they have read in them with their families. We have loved learning about many of the nonfiction events in the Time for Kids magazines and many of them have gone along great with the skill and concept we are learning about in class. Thank you again for engaging my students in their learning and motivating them to read.”

Funded Dec 11, 2017After receiving this grant chapter book reading in my classroom has really increased especially with my males. I am so thankful that I now have some chapter books in my classroom library that the males in my classroom are interested in reading. When you walk into my classroom every time these students get a free chance they have a book in their hand reading. Some children have even began taking books to the cafeteria with them to read while they are eating lunch because they have become so interested in reading. I would like to thank you so much for getting all the children in my classroom interested in reading but especially getting titles that have really interested my male readers.”

Active Third Grade Learners
Funded Oct 11, 2017The children were so excited when our new seating materials arrived. They were so excited to be able to use them right away. To see the kids smiles on their faces when we got the materials were priceless.
We use these materials everyday in the classroom. The children get the opportunity to move while working and use the cushions at various spots of the classroom or on the chair. These have really helped my children who are active and have a hard time sitting still and focusing while I am teaching lessons.
The yoga balls chairs have been the best thing according to my third grade classroom. They work so hard to be the star student in the classroom to be able to spend the day on the yoga ball chairs. They love sitting in a special area of the classroom and instead of having real chairs they get to sit on the yoga ball chairs. Again this has helped with motivating the children to work hard and do their best each and every day.
We have another project write now that we are asking for two more yoga chairs so we can have a star student table (group) because the children love them so much and also scholastic news classroom subscription to help with another resource for reading in the classroom.”
