My young scientists and engineers attend a public school in Washington, DC. They arrive in my classroom with a wide range of scientific knowledge and academic skills, and each of my students has a unique cultural and personal background that influences their learning. It is my job to ensure each student masters the grade-level science standards and scientific literacy skills. However, Science is particularly challenging for many of my students. There is a lot of new vocabulary and abstract concepts to learn. Students struggle with putting the new material together, and often students feel content is not relevant to their lives.
