Meeting the individual sensory needs of each student in my classroom is a priority. Sensory needs can be met with sensory based play and provides great opportunities for learning, too! Our sensory room helps with this, but we are looking for more ways to include sensory play and breaks in our classroom. This vibrating sensory tray would provide tactile, auditory, and visual experiences for students while exploring items in the tray. This tray would provide opportunities for early STEM learning, encourage students to experience new textures, and be a great sensory station in my classroom. Students would be able to interact and build safely with manipulatives such as sand or water gel blocks and learn how movement from the vibration changes structures. It would also give them a place to explore science and math concepts such as states of matter, how two substances interact with each other (such as oil and water), cause and effect, sorting, counting and building. Our students learn so much during play, especially learning how to interact and play with other students. This vibrating sensory tray would encourage social interaction and team work, too! We will share this vibrating tray with all students who utilize our sensory room, increasing the reach of this project. The 9 students in my classroom will utilize it daily, while roughly 25+ other students will have opportunities to use the sensory tray during sensory room visits.
