  • Can You Hear Me? Audiobooks for All Learners

    Funded Nov 1, 2022

I have two new classes of students -- you cannot imagine the shocked looks on their faces when they realized I am ready to support them. I had headphones and plastic bags for each student. Their warm welcome into learning in my class was 100% due to your support and kindness. I appreciate you and I know that without your help, that special day would not have happened.

I have students of all ability levels. Some students have specific intellectual disabilities that make it hard to read. Having access to the audiobooks of our novels makes a huge difference. You have made such a difference.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Rowley

  • The Basics of Writing: Pens and Pencils

    Funded Oct 26, 2022

Thank you so much for the help. Students are writing essays and I cannot begin to explain how fundamental basics like pencils and pens make such a huge difference in our classroom.

Families do their best to help students, but every now and then circumstances beyond their control mean there is a gap between essential supplies and students. Students know I am here to help, without a stigma and without shaming them. It feels good to know we have the basics covered.

In the future, I hope to have hygiene products and a pencil sharpener as well. When students feel supported and safe, they learn. Thanks to you, we have that support.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Rowley

  • Good Job! A Positive Note for Every Student

    Funded Oct 12, 2022

I love sending positive notes to students. This project has also transformed into sending support home to great kids who need a little extra encouragement. I am so glad that we have materials like cards and stamps to remind students they will be okay.

My students are not always the most confident learners. They are not always sure they belong in challenging classes. Most of my job is just reminding them that everyone can be the best version of themselves. When they get a letter at home reinforcing that idea, it seems to help.

Thank you for your help. This project would be impossible without you.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Rowley

  • The Awakening: Annotating to Return to Learning

    Funded Oct 11, 2022

It was so wonderful to see students annotating in their own copies of this classic novel. I was so proud of the writing they produced and the discussions they conducted. It was a really special unit for all of us.

After reading, students created argument essay, pitched the novel to Netflix (in their minds, at least), and even made connections to themselves. Now, they have a classic novel for their home bookshelves.

Your contribution made this possible and we are so thankful for your thoughtful support. You are the coolest.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Rowley

  • English Learners Need Tools

    Funded Aug 18, 2022

Thank you so much for donating to my classroom. The day the supplies arrived my schedule was changed and I had brand new students. I made sure the new teacher was equipped with a box of helpful tools to support our newcomers.

It isn't easy to be the only teacher on campus with a subject or class. I am so proud of our school for gathering together to support our students and provide what they need. The extra special touches like a nice pencil or a working highlighter do make a difference. They are all our kids and we love them. Thanks for helping us support them every day.”

  • Shakespeare Experts Deserve Prizes!

    Funded May 3, 2022

Thank you so much for sharing your time and energy with my students. We had an epic Romeo and Juliet tournament. There were team negotiations, BINGO moments, and even some sparkle as students won awards. Beyond that, students wrote some of the best essays we have seen in a long while. Why? Because when people have fun, they feel relaxed and happy. Happy people learn more.

Brain science tells us this truth. You understood and helped us have a wonderful time in class so that all students could smile and learn. It was just what we needed after the pandemic. Thank you for your help!”

    With gratitude,

  • Maus for Everyone

    Funded Mar 11, 2022

Thank you so much for helping us read this important work. The Pulitzer Prize is awarded to literature that speaks to the life and times of Americans. This is true of Maus, a story about families making sense of life in the aftermath of the Holocaust.

This story is important to us today since we are so quick to judge and slow to compromise. I hope my students grow as they read and understand that humans, as mice, are complex and their stories represent many years of history (some that may have occurred before they were born). With Kindred, we paint fuller pictures of ourselves and the world.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Rowley

  • It's Going to Be Okay: Less Stress Means More Learning

    Funded Dec 31, 2021

This is the most successful project I have ever posted. Students use these materials every single day. We have realized that the most popular (squishy) toys are claimed quickly and that several students have favorite ways to calm down.

Beyond this, students have become more open about sharing their needs. Some people feel the din of the hallway is too loud. Others used our note cards to support a student with a sick parent. Some found ways to let me know about a loss in their family. When we care about students, it gives them space to breathe and learn. Everyone wins, thanks to you.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Rowley

  • Magic the Gathering: A Safe Place to Play

    Funded Mar 22, 2022

Thank you for supporting our fun and wonderful club. Students fly into my classroom right when the bell rings on Friday and their laughter and joy remind me why we returned to school -- students need social interactions to be their best selves.

Recently, some of these students have suffered significant losses. They are grieving for family members and friends. This club offers a time to feel positive and loved. That is my hope for all students on campus and I am especially happy that we get this time together to check-in and have fun.

Thank you so much for supporting us!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Rowley

  • Young, Black, and Beautiful: Memoirs for a New Year

    Funded Nov 30, 2021

Thank you so much for sharing these novels with us. Students chose a memoir to read as we wrote our own creative nonfiction. They had book clubs and discussed the novels they chose. It was wonderful to see students move beyond reading for a quiz and really reading to discuss and share ideas.

Also, these novels shared stories that showed our students worlds outside of our school. With your help, their worlds became a little bigger. They reported out to their classmates and made a creative project. Thank you so much for making this possible.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Rowley
