Girls' Basketball Matters Too!
Funded Oct 19, 2015The girls' basketball team wants to send their warmest thank you to all of you for sending the much-needed balls to their team. They have started their season and it has been a rocky one. They haven't seen many wins, but I asked Deona why she keeps playing. She realizes that the teammates and experience will help her build character in the future. She wants to go to college and needs to prove that she can accomplish difficult tasks, even if she gets frustrated sometimes. Her goals are pushing her to be her best. This year, you helped her get closer to her goals. Thank you for supporting her and the other ladies. They appreciate the chance to grow on and off of the court.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Rowley

Funded Mar 7, 2015Thank you so much for supporting my extended learning and growth. After seven years on our campus, I am the most veteran English teacher on campus. It is hard to explain how much I still have to learn as an educator, but you must remember attending a high school that had teachers who had been on campus for ten, twenty, or thirty years. The wisdom veteran teachers bring to campus is often hard earned and a product of years of learning. You are helping me become the successful career teacher that I dream of being. Thank you!”

Funded Aug 20, 2015Thank you so much for supporting our students! In the first couple weeks of school, they are already practicing annotating and creating study guides! As we start our first novel, the pens and sticky notes will be very handy as we continue to use our brains to figure out difficult texts. I can already imagine the notes I will see in Lord of the Flies, Night, and Fahrenheit 451. These books can be really tough for our students and I am absolutely thrilled that we have another way to dig in and make them come alive.
Reading and literacy are more important than ever. With your help, our students will be amazing today and tomorrow. Thank you again!”

Funded May 19, 2015Thank you so much for your kind donations! We have our printer and students use it EVERY SINGLE DAY. We have already printed essays, projects, notes, and reflections. It's only the 4th week of school, and our new printer is making a big difference. The seniors have decided to name him Bruce, after the sharks in Finding Nemo, because he tears through our print jobs so very quickly. Other teachers also send their students to print their work in our class, so his impact is growing every day!
This printer was a real investment in our students. Thank you for being the best!”

Science In An English Classroom?!?!
Funded Jan 27, 2015Thank you so much for supporting my wonderful students. Several of them participate in summer science programs for low income students and they were really excited to read about science in an English class (they didn't even realize the genre existed!)! Also, my African American students were excited to read a text about their community and their history. Everyone was thankful for a new, new, new book to carry and read.
What happens when you hand a student a new book? They rub the cover, because it is shiny and smooth. Next? They smell it. Every time! In all of their classes, it is rare for students to have the chance to smell a new book. We are so lucky to have your support to learn, grow, and appreciate the beauty of a text.
Thank you again!”

Sprouting New Life: Growing Character in a Community Garden
Funded Dec 1, 2014A student recently moved to our school, on his own, from a distant country. His entire family, all farmers, sent him to the United States to get an education. He is alone.
This brave student fought to take advanced classes. He wants to go to an agricultural university and return home to help his family. He is proud of their work and pushes himself to honor them in every way: in school, as a friend, and at church every week.
When this young person asked if we could plant trees and flowers at school, what could we say? Of course. YES. And we did. He carried buckets of water around school with other students, dug through miserable rocks, and did fund raisers for plants.
Your donation meant less time carrying buckets and more time teaching other students how to care for the plants he loves. Thank you for honoring my student and his home (and his new club at our school). Thank you for supporting us!”

Funded Dec 12, 2014In a perfect world, you wouldn't be able to tell which students in the pictures are foster kids. Your donation got us closer to that goal. 100% of students have access to a new notebook and tabs because you were willing to help us get there. For those kids, a time of transition had just a little less stress. That made it a bit easier for them to grab a seat and start their day as a student and classmate.
Our new student asked, "Why do we have to read this poem and write about it in our notebooks?" Without skipping a beat, another student replied, "because she loves us. Just do it." And that is the truth. Every day I have to be more than a teacher. Thank you for helping me stretch an extra inch and love the kids who need it most.
You're awesome!”

Funded Dec 5, 2014Thank you so much for supporting our amazing students! Your support for our classroom is making a difference every day. We love sharing new ideas and new technology together. Our students use cameras for reflecting on their work, creating projects, and even sharing their writing with the world. Many of my students have less access to technology than their wealthy peers. Your support will make a world of difference to them when it comes to learning 2.0 skills, preparing for college, and preparing for a world beyond college.
We are lucky to know you and have you support our class.”

A Passion For Reading
Funded Sep 15, 2014There are so many excited 10th and 11th graders! We are so lucky to have copies of this international best-seller in our classroom. Students from other classes and other schools actually come to my class to see the books, touch the books, and borrow the books. Students love the opportunity to read a "fun book" but also a book with life lessons for teens.
And me? I am excited about their passion for reading --the way their eyes light up when they notice the crisp pages and bright cover. The sweet discussions they have about the characters and the serious talks they have while nested in beanbag chairs. They love reading and I love supporting readers.
Thank you so much for caring about our amazing students.”

Point. Click. Write.
Funded Sep 15, 2014My students love our technology! They are so excited to create and share their ideas. Recently, students made "how-to" videos to accompany their expository writing. The creativity students expressed went far beyond a multiple choice test. I am really glad you were able to help us support students as they learn new skills, like editing videos and creating story lines.
Many students will benefit from the camera, since we can share, pass, and explain over and over again. What a great resource for our school!
Thanks again!”

Mrs. Rowley
