We Want to Play Ukuleles! Part 2
Funded Aug 22, 2009Thank you for your kindness in donating to "We Want to Play Ukuleles! (Part 2)." Your generous donation helped purchase 6 standard sized ukuleles which were added to the ukulele collections at the 2 elementary schools where I teach. Thanks to the generosity of DonorsChoose contributors such as yourself, the 2 schools where I teach each now have nearly a full classroom set of ukuleles for students! The students have started to play the ukuleles and have begun to learn how to strum the instrument, how to hold it, and how to play basic chords including C and G7. Students will continue to learn folk songs as the year progresses and will eventually compose their own song! Thank you again from myself and the music students!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Farrand

Needed: Ukuleles (Part 1)
Funded Mar 23, 2009Thank you for your generous donations to "Needed: Ukuleles (Part 1)!" Your thoughtful donation has obtained 5 standard sized ukuleles which are now being used by students in the general music classroom by students grades 1 through 8. Students have started to use the ukuleles while performing in groups, and are already learning how to play the D7 chord and G chord. Next year students will continue to learn to play more chords, and will learn to sing traditional Hawaiian songs as well!
Student response to the ukuleles has been phenomenal! Students are excited about performing in groups, and are placing requests for songs that can be learned in class. One first grade student even requested that we start a "ukulele band" at our school. Thank you again for your generous donation to the music students at our school!”

Drumming to the Beat
Funded Feb 21, 2009Thank you for your generosity in funding "Drumming to the Beat!" Your thoughtful donation has obtained 10 child sized hand drums to be used by students in general music class as they perform in music ensembles, compose original music, improvise, and learn about percussion from around the world.
In the photos students are exploring sounds and timbre that can be produced on a hand drum through a storytelling activity, where I tell students a story and the students use their instruments to add sound effects to illustrate sounds of the story. Through this activity students learn the range of sounds that can be produced on the instrument. Thank you for your thoughtfulness in donating the instruments to our classroom!”
