This school year I want to make an impact on my students, and I genuinely believe creating a classroom that has flexible seating will impact their learning. You are probably thinking "what in the world is flexible seating?" Well, a flexible seating classroom looks like this is; there no traditional seating charts. They are replaced with seating arrangements that allow the students to sit where they choose. Children need to move. Flexible seating will enable them to wobble, rock, bounce, lean or stand, which increases oxygen flow to the brain, blood flow, and core strength. Students feel empowered by having some degree of choice and control over their environment. Flexible seating allows students to choose where they work and with whom. The items I wanted specifically for my project will enable students the ability to move. I picked the plastic stack stools for students because they will help students with focus. The seats will cover five students at a center. The laptop desk will benefit students who choose to sit in an area that does not have a table; this will help four students. A student can select the option of sitting on the ground criss-cross applesauce with the Portable Lap Desk. The Wobble Cushion was chosen for a student who has sensory needs in the classroom. The last two items on the list the Bold Women in Black History and Famous African Americans Bulletin Board is to inspire my students of color the greatness they can achieve. I believe students of color are not exposed to heroes in the POC community. This school year I want to create a learning environment that showcases their communities.
