In our elementary school library one reading skill we are working on is building reading stamina - reading for sustained amounts of time. Students read books they have chosen themselves, individually or in small groups. Later, they creatively respond to the books. Being able to spread out around the library and having comfortable seating will allow the students to immerse themselves more fully into the books they have chosen. It also allows small groups to move apart from the class, read their books, and discuss what they have read without disturbing others. The bright, inviting chairs will add to the welcoming environment we are working to create.
