This project will support student reading and build greater understanding of African American history in the students. Yes, the books will be used as a learning tool at home. The story, "Clean Get Away" by Nic Stone will be used as a classroom read aloud. At the end of each school day the teacher will read a few pages to the class. The students will be able to ask and answer questions about landmarks of the Civil Rights Movement and the map they lay for contemporary race relations. Since this book is told from a grandparent's perspective the students will also learn the importance of family.
