Flexible Seating in ELA
Funded Jul 18, 2023Having added flexible seating to my classroom has been so wonderful for my students. I have used the taller tables as a way for students who often like to stand during work to have a dedicated workspace that doesn't impact others around them. My students have genuinely enjoyed getting to sit at the taller tables using the stools. We had to create a rotating chart for who gets to enjoy the tables and chairs each week.
I have seen an increase in focus from some students who struggled before to pay attention. They really love getting to have a seat that allows them to stand, sit, or lean against the chairs while they work. These tables and chairs have provided a flexible seating environment where my students are thriving.
Thank you so much for all of your support to fund this project. I am so grateful that you chose to invest in my students and in my classroom!”

Bookshelf for Inspired Readers
Funded Nov 30, 2021My students are so happy with their new novels and bookshelf for the classroom. I love allowing students to choose their own book and host book discussions with their peers to look at how characters evolve and get to explore all of the basic reading standards for our state. Students are able to dive into novels to learn about conflict, setting, character development, storyline, and compare different genres. Having new books that are student chosen gets everyone really excited for reading days.
In my classroom, I allow students to organize the books on the shelf and we have class time set aside to read as well as class time dedicated to book discussions with classmates. Sometimes, a student will love their book so much that they want to take it home - I have created a check-out system run on my phone so that students can take them home and I can keep track of who has checked out classroom novels.
I am so thankful for your generous donations helping my students build a classroom library that they have had a say in.”

Ms. Ames

Funded Apr 25, 2019Scholastic Scope has given my students an opportunity to look at the world around them in a brand new light. In September, we followed Bilan, a refugee living in a refugee camp which led to some amazing discussions and questions from my students. Living in a small town, students are not always exposed to the realities that others in the world face. We read about Bilan, and then watched a video through the Scope website about what her day to day life looks like. The resources through Scope really brought the story to life in the classroom.
I love that my students can take their time to read articles spread around the classroom, and even outside on a sunny day. Giving my students a space in class that is more relaxing than tables helps them stay focused on reading and also feel comfortable in the classroom. I got to hear many groups discussing super heroes from the September issue, and acting out the Thor skit which was so fun to see. Scope has added some more creativity to reading time in the classroom.
At the end of the day, Scope has opened up the world a little more for my students. I love seeing their curiosity and hearing their questions as we get to explore news and parts of the world they are unfamiliar with. Thank you so much for your generosity, you have brought global understanding into my classroom.”
