Funded Aug 21, 2015Thank you so much for your donation. I apologize for the lateness of this note. In the past year since we were able to view the film, there have been many changes at our school and the lessons of this film and this opportunity were key in reinforcing what we as a staff have been trying to teach our students. The trip itself went great. Our students enjoyed seeing the film and learning about the struggles Malala has gone through just to get an education. It was just a wonderful experience to be able to see the film in a theatre versus the classroom.
Your generosity reinforced the idea that people care about people whether they know them or not. It helped us as adults have the discussion about why each person should care about humanity as a whole rather than solely themselves and those around them. It also helped us to refocus many of our students to understand the importance of education in creating a better future for themselves and how being educated is something that affects not only the student but the communities they live in as well.
The trip inspired learning in our classroom and school by opening up our students' perceptions of the world around them. It allowed our students to see that the world is bigger than just their neighborhood. It also has helped in building empathy amongst some of our students who struggled with doing so.
Thank you so much for your generosity. It is something that continues to have an impact on our students well beyond their time here.”

Teaching Financial Literacy to Teenagers
Funded May 24, 2014Thank you for your generous donation to our classroom. The books and projector have allowed us to reach our students in a more meaningful, impactful way. All of our students are greatly benefiting from the real life lessons the books teach about the importance of being financially literate and aware in today's world. It has sparked many meaningful conversations about the importance of well thought out, planned decision making. The projector has also greatly helped with reaching our students. Whether it's making a presentation to their classmates or showing a video they found that relates to what we are discussing, having a projector of such excellent quality has enabled us to make great progress so far.
The resources are used on a daily basis to spark discussion, debate, and thoughtful reflection. The books contain many real-world lessons that our students find great meaning in. Often times they comment on how much what we are talking about makes sense but they never thought of it. Some students have also shared how they have taken some of these lessons home and talked with their parents about what they are learning in class. The projector has allowed the students to practice speaking in front of others. They have become teachers in their own right of each other and we often find ourselves learning much more from the students than we think they are learning from us.
Without these resources, we would not have been able to do what we have been doing. Being able to make real world connections to economic concepts in essential but difficult to do. Having these resources has made it both easier and much more meaningful for our students. They are engaged and excited to learn each day and your contribution is what is behind this.”

Funded Aug 23, 2014Thank you so much for your generous donation to our classroom. Without it, we would not be able to encourage the students to pursue the arts, and in particular, photography. The students were so excited to learn that they would be able to enroll in photography classes as part of their academic program. Many have since begun and have created some wonderful and amazing projects!
The students are using the book to develop and sharpen their photography skills. It is used to guide them as they complete their proposed projects. Once they have completed the project, the laminator is used to make their project presentation ready to be displayed to their classmates. In the end, these projects become compiled into a single portfolio for the students to take with them as an example of their creative achievement.
It has allowed the students to push their artistic development to new levels. The project has made them excited to learn and greatly contributed to their credit recovery. Without these materials, we would not have been able to have the success that we have had. Thank you so much!”

Funded May 7, 2013Thank you so much for the desktop computer. It has helped us so much in giving our students access to more technology, especially as we begin a new program focusing on college readiness. In many of our courses, computers are becoming an integral part of the curriculum. Your gift has been essential to the success of our students. In creating our college and career readiness program, students have become required to research a college and major of their choice. As we begin to slowly upgrade our technology to make this program possible, your gift has allowed us to be able to provide students with a reliable tool to complete their assignments and projects. One computer may not seem significant, but for our students, having just one machine that always works and is available for their use has made a difference in encouraging our students to keep progressing towards completing their high school diploma. We are so incredibly grateful of your generosity in giving such an essential gift to our classroom and especially, our students!”

Protecting Human Rights Through Teaching About Democracy
Funded Oct 10, 2012Thank you so much for your generous donation to my classroom. As you can tell from my students' letters they are so grateful for the books. With the books you donated we have been able to expand our curriculum in both our afterschool program and regular day program. Students in both programs have since included the materials in their coursework. As a result, their assignments have improved in quality and they are making it a priority to take the time to read.
Most importantly, your donation has demonstrated the value that education has for everyone. The fact that someone who has never met them donated books to the class was not lost on my students. It shows them that there are many people out there who are pulling for them to succeed. It also shows them that they have a responsibility to finish school, graduate, and make a difference in their communities.
Without your donation, I could not create a meaningful and challenging curriculum for my students. Interacting with the materials forces both my students and me to ask ourselves the hard questions about choices, character, and change. With the materials as a guide, my students are seeing that real learning is hard work but important work. Thank you so much for your generosity. It means more than you'll ever know.”
