I teach in a Title 1 school in the Bronx. The students, predominantly Hispanic, Black and Spanish speaking are burdened with responsibilities people their age shouldn't need to worry about. However, they come to school each day and excited and willing to learn. They live with the harsh reality of life and poverty, and many times cannot afford the bare necessities. This hardship causes a lack of motivation and passion for life. This causes many of the children to be lacking basic needs for school, such as pencils and notebooks.
