  • We Have Stories To Tell.

    Funded Sep 2, 2020

It is with joy that I tell you that our project has been fully funded! I can't wait to see what the students write, and draw. It will be wonderful to start our year with the gift of a new book to read and be inspired by as storytellers. I am so deeply appreciative of your support for our students, families, classroom, and our school.

Thank you for your support for public education.”

    Ms. Dunning

  • Learning Spaces That Are as Unique as We Are!

    Funded Dec 18, 2018

Thank you so much for your generous donations to our classroom community! The beginning of independent reading time is abuzz with students finding the seats they've chosen to help them stay on track with their books, taking down comfy chairs, pulling over a wobble seat, or arranging the dots on the rug just so to meet with their book clubs. What excitement we have had getting to choose and introduce these resources to our classroom!

When we first revealed to our second graders that we had new ways and places to sit, they were wide eyed. "You mean we get to use those!?" Students have also been working together to share the seats, especially the wobble chairs, being sure to let more than one child use them and making certain that they are rotated around the classroom has been a necessity because they are so popular.

As they become better and better readers our students are learning what works for them and their learning styles. It's an exciting time for us as teachers, because kids advocating for themselves and making choices to support their learning are the pieces of public education that are at times neglected. What a great feeling for an eight year old- to know what they want (to read longer and longer books) and how they can best achieve that goal (by sitting in a chair that lets them move their body while they read).

Thank you for providing our classroom the opportunity to be flexible, this project will support many many generations of second grade students and for that we are truly grateful!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Dunning

  • The Next Frank Lloyd Wright is in 2nd Grade

    Funded Aug 14, 2017

We are hard at work in second grade building, sharing and learning together. Every Monday, students have a chance to pick one of the centers you helped to fund to build at for the entire week. They are so excited that 'Do we get to pick centers today?' is often the first thing asked as, kids hang up their backpacks in the morning. The centers are so engaging in fact, that when students are rewarded with a special teacher lunch, they choose to play these centers with their teachers as a part of their reward!

When the second graders realized that they were able to PLAY with these cool tools, they were overjoyed. They've been finding new ways to use them each week, from making mazes, building castles, cities, and pathways to constructing towers of gears that are even taller than they are. Some adults might look at a room of children playing and building and think that they are 'just playing', but this seemingly casual time in our day has so much more impact than one might imagine.

Our classroom is a place of diverse needs, and the opportunity to guide students in cooperative play should not be underestimated. With these materials we will continue to guide students to build physical projects and also envision their futures in a way that they might never have considered. This is all possible because of your generous contributions to our community.”

  • Root for Reading Rock Stars!

    Funded Oct 12, 2010

Please consider this note a small fraction of the gratitude and awe that I feel as I think about the generosity of this group of donors. Thank you so much for believing in my students success as much as I do.

By providing them with this fabulous furniture I continue to see their love of reading grow, especially with a comfortable place to do so. Our school is not immune to the economic shifts these days, and being able to give my students something special like our reading area is a wonderful bonus that I would not be able to do alone.

So frequently we hear about the negative things happening in the world, but know that your acts of kindness towards my classroom are noted and we are all very grateful for your help. Thank you! ”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Dunning

  • Tiny Warrior Positions

    Funded Dec 16, 2009

Please allow me to express my immense gratitude to you for helping my classroom. My students are frequently those who are not given a chance to try new things and it has been fantastic to see them engage so happily with the yoga equipment. Even the little ones in my class who have a limited use of oral language ask for 'exercise' and more than one time I have observed them taking the mats out of the closet to start stretching by themselves.

Thank you so much for giving myself and my students a chance to do something new and wonderful. Our school does not have gym and without you my students would have very little structured physical activity. For little kids with so much energy and so many emotions that they are unable to express, yoga is the perfect solution! It's fantastic to see them enjoying something so much, and for me to be able to share something that I love in my personal life with my students.

I was overwhelmed that someone else would care as much as I do about my students, without even meeting them. Thank you for your generosity and vision for my classroom. I applaud your choice to support public education, and enrichment for special education students.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Dunning
