I teach 4th grade in a suburban area. My students are eager and excited about learning. They work hard and try their best, but they do not get very excited about math. The materials are not hands-on unless they are teacher-made. My students are motivated to learn when they have tools they can manipulate. Paper and pencil activities don't help them. They need for lessons to be hands-on so they can actually "see" the steps they are taking to solve problems. These young students deserve the opportunity of getting their hands on these math materials to make learning more exciting and more meaningful.
