Differentiated Learning for Children Who Learn Differently
Funded Sep 12, 2024Thank you so much for all of the donations. The children in my class are learning to read! The program that I ordered through your donations is one in which I can teach different lessons at their level. I really appreciate your help. The children have really enjoyed learning this way.
I used to teach 1-3rd grade and my biggest goal was to get them reading so that in 4,5 and 6th grade they could be successful in learning to write and spell. I now teach 4, 5th and 6th graders who can't read. It is a different challenge and I knew we would need supplies in order to be successful.
I want to thank you again. Please enjoy your holidays and have a Merry Christmas!”

Calmness to Make Our Math Magical and Our Reading Radical!
Funded Oct 11, 2023Thank you so much for providing fidgets and fun Math games for the kids. I didn't anticipate that they would work so hard to play with fidgets for a few minutes. Each child has access to fidgets during learning time to help with self calming.
They also really enjoyed are two new multiplication /division games and sight word Jenga to work on sight words! They've really enjoyed the learning toys. It's been really helpful for my students with special needs find a way to learn in their own way. It makes my heart happy.”

This classroom project was brought to life by The DonorsChoose Community & an Anonymous Partner and 4 other donors.Help Us Learn to Print, By Playing!
Funded Nov 21, 2013I wanted to express my gratitude for your generous gifts to my classroom. The children love using the fine motor toys that you bought for them. In turn I can see how those items have increased their fine motor ability. They can now print letters that are not only legible, but also with correct letter formation. Your gifts helped me in my teaching by strengthening the muscles in their hands so that they could properly print. Thank you again so much for your gifts. Thank you again for your generosity.”

Having A Ball!
Funded Dec 20, 2012Hi everyone,
I just wanted to tell you how much fun we have had playing with your P.E. equipment you sent.
So far we have had a hula hoop contest. One first grader went for 45 minutes before she finally said, "I am so tired can I stop!" She won.
My class plays with the balls, bean bags, jump ropes and catch its that you have send. Also I have so much that we have not even opened all of it,( as I only have nine students this year); that next year, the year after and the year after that we will have plenty of balls and other equipment to play with for years to come. Thank you again.”

Children with Special Needs Need Tag Readers!
Funded Feb 8, 2013Hi, My children were so excited when we received your box. We opened it together and I let each of them pull things out of the box. Later in the day, after I installed the batteries, we listened to different stories from the books together.
As you can see I teach in a multilingual and multiethnic area. Many of the children do not know the stories that I and possibly you grew up with: IE.., Goldilocks and the three bears; The three little pigs, etc. So, not only do they enjoy listening to the stories, but they are learning stories that will help them culturally later on.
They ask to use the books daily, and it is easy to agree. As this year's class moves on, next years class will use them. It will be loads of fun for each new class. I thank you again for your gift and apologize for responding later than I expected.”

Tag -Your It: Learning To Read Is Fun.
Funded Mar 31, 2011Imagine Christmas morning when you were a child. The day that your box arrived was like all the special mornings when you were a child. The kids were so incredibly excited to see the new books, and then to find out that they had the Tag read it system to help them read the books made it that much better! I think all other books in the classroom have been ignored since that day. The high interest, high vocabulary and great comprehension skills that are developed by the Tag read it system make the books worth while. There is great competition to see who will get to use the Tag readers every morning. So it has also fostered sharing, and a team atmosphere.
We use a program called Accelerated reader at school. Some of the books that you purchased are also on Accelerated reader. I have many children who have poor reading skills and haven't been able to pass the AR tests because of this. However since the Tag readers/books came even the children who struggle to read can comprehend and "read" the books. Many have learned new words. Thank you again for your generous donation to my wonderful children. ”

April Showers Bring May Flowers
Funded Apr 6, 2011Thank you so much for making science come alive for my students. They enjoyed planting the seeds and watching their plants grow. The tadpoles haven't come as yet, but I am sure they will squeal with joy when they do come. Part of the joy of donor's choose is the joy that comes from carrying the big box into the classroom. The children's interest and curiosity is instantly piqued. I can help but feel their joy as I open it for them and we carry each item and examine it. It is like Christmas. It was even better this time, because the project was so hands on. They were able to plant the seeds, watch and wait while they grew, journal about the growth, and talk about the life cycle of a seed and learn so much language in the process. It was incredibly exciting for them. I was just as excited as they were. Thank you again. Ms. Parker. ”

P.E. for Me
Funded Dec 20, 2010Hi,
I wanted to thank you personally for the precious gifts you gave to my students. The balls, and other P.E. equipment helped their self esteem and their gross and fine motor skills tremendously. I also ordered small balls for use easing the tension in their hands and developing strength in them. They were so excited! The packages came on a couple of different days so each time a package arrived was like Christmas in February. Thank you again for making my day and their days full of joy. Your gifts make a huge difference every single day. ”

Music Helps Our Memories
Funded Jun 10, 2009I wanted to sincerely thank you for the cassette/cd player you provided for our classroom. We use it every single day for learning math: counting by 2's, 5's and 10's; learning shapes; working on calendar skills etc. These are a vital part of my special education's classroom routine. I was a little lost without my Cd player. My school is a title one school, which basically means very poor, so without your help we could not have gotten one for a very long time, if ever.
The children are in the process of writing their letters to you. However I must warn you that only a few can really write so they will do the best they can.
They are precious and were all so excited to open the box. It took me about a half an hour to calm them down. I was that excited too though. ”
With gratitude,
Ms. Parker
