  • Magic Carpet Ride

    Funded Dec 4, 2024

I thought my younger students in the kindergarten through second grades would love the carpet the most. However, my third and fourth grade students are just as excited for us to have a carpet in the room. We have a self regulation area in the room. The Feelings ABCs carpet is directly underneath and fits perfectly.

The kids use the carpet to find their feelings and sit or stand on it to share with me or peers. They also use it as a traditional carpet to sit on when their emotions get a little too big.

Thank you for your donations to help get this amazing carpet with different feelings for each letter of the alphabet. We use it daily.”

  • The Look and Smell of Clean

    Funded Sep 7, 2024

Thank you for helping keep our space clean. Having a clean learning environment has been a blessing. We try not to put the burden on the parents to send in wipes and tissues. Tissues and disinfectant wipes are everyday staples that we desperately need. Each day I service students who are in tears from grief, injury, or other self-regulation struggles. Having tissues in the room so they can feel like it is okay to cry and be safe is important. We were also excited about the wipes. Little ones, especially kindergarten and first, are still working on not making messes or sneezing on the table etc. It has been extremely helpful this season with reported cases of stomach bugs, flu, covid, and other respiratory illnesses.”

  • Our Calming Corner

    Funded May 9, 2024

Calming corners are essential in elementary school these days. My students have a lot of emotional needs that become a barrier to learning. It has been so exciting to be able to receive our donations.

Kiddos of all ages love to color. The class pack of crayons and markers has allowed my kindergarten through fourth-grade students to come in and work on their coping skills. We draw our emotions and use art as an outlet. The bulletin board paper and mats create a comfortable space in the room to support in the emotional "reset". Students are able to return to class and participate in learning.”

  • Big Feelings? I've Got a Book for That!

    Funded Mar 31, 2023

Books are a fun and interactive way to teach students, especially younger ones, important social-emotional learning skills. The right books are on the student's level and are relatable to their everyday lives.

I love to use books in small groups. We practice taking turns sharing feelings and learning how we can apply the skills in our lives. I love to pair a read-aloud with an activity the students can keep to remind them of the lessons they learned. I also love to use books in individual sessions when my students need a break from class to work on self-regulation.

We use books every day and are extremely grateful for all the support we receive for our classroom.”

  • Let's Get Organized

    Funded May 10, 2023

It is a bittersweet time of year. We are closing out the 2022-23 school year. However, organizing materials for the next school year is a great feeling. We will be able to ensure that we have all of our activities, books, and manipulatives safe. Often times our rooms are used or moved over the summer and materials go missing. Organizing, with the help of students, will help ensure they are safe.

I allowed students to come in small groups and help organize their favorite activities into separate folders. They also worked on a grouping to determine a theme for each bin. For example, we put books, activities, and sensory items in their own bin for easier access.

Supplies are limited in our school. We do not get a budget for new supplies each year. Therefore, it is important to preserve all of the items that were so graciously donated this school year.”

  • Together at the Table

    Funded Jan 26, 2023

Excitement is an understatement. My kiddos noticed the table right away. We finally can have students sit together at the table. We do not have to have some students sit on the floor and some at the table. In addition, the table is big enough for my third through fifth-grade students. No more kindergarten table for learning.

Having a table allows me to work in small groups with more students throughout the day. We work on social-emotional skills and help remove the barriers to learning.

Thank you so much for allowing us to all have a seat at the table.”

  • Organized Emotional Toolbox

    Funded Nov 29, 2022

My students were so excited to see the 20-drawer organization cart. I organized the drawers to make materials more accessible to them and help them to feel more in control of their experience. Students now know which drawers are the supplies for lunch bunch crafts, school work necessities, activities, and of course prizes. They respect the space and work together to make sure items remain in their correct homes.

In addition to the new cart, we were excited to have new emotional regulation posters. Each time a student enters, they go over to the posters to let me know how they are feeling or how their mood has changed based on any incidents that may have happened earlier.

We have been beyond thrilled to use all of the materials we received. I am not giving new materials each year and any additional items are from generous donors like you.”

  • A Seat at the Table

    Funded Nov 25, 2022

My students use the new cushions and stools every single day. They are safer and more comfortable than the mix of old mix-matched chairs we had been trying to use daily.

The students love their use in the calming space. Not every student wants to sit on a chair when they are struggling with big emotions. The large oversized cushions allow my kiddos to sit on the floor in any space in the room. It provides them safety until they are able to self-regulate. A few students have even used the cushions to scream into when they were angry.

The stools are the right size to fit their bodies up to the table to utilize the emotion buddies. They love the stools' bright colors too. They have favorites they want to sit in.

The stools and cushions have been the best addition to the room this year! We cannot thank you enough.”

    Ms. Haynes
