  • STEM Bins for Hands-on Learning

    Funded Dec 3, 2019

I am so grateful and appreciative for the supplies to create these STEM bins!! The day I got the supplies I stayed after school and assembled them and we used them every single day! The students used them to create models, I used them in small groups to explain concepts like lunar and solar eclipses and moon phases, and then sometimes I would just give them to students as an early-finisher activity. They were so useful and I am so thankful that I had them. In the pictures, they are using Play-doh to create models of stars at different parts of their life cycle! I loved that these STEM bins added hands-on learning to our classroom daily. Thank you so much for your generosity.”

  • Look, in the Sky! It's an Aid Drop Package!

    Funded Jul 11, 2019

Engineering and hands-on learning is such a big part of my classroom. I cannot thank you enough for helping me get the supplies for our aid drop package project. The kids had so much fun completing this project. First, we learned the Engineering Design Method, then we learned what aid drop packages were and how they help people in need, then they planned out their own aid drop packages and we tested them! They had a blast and learned so much about engineering and how to utilize air resistance. Thank you for giving my students this hands-on opportunity that I'm sure they will never forget.”

  • 3-D Pens for 3-D Learning

    Funded Mar 1, 2019

We had such a blast learning about biomedical engineering and creating prosthetics for broken toys. The students first learned what biomedical engineering was and learned about an engineer who had created affordable prosthetic hands for those in need. We learned about 3-D printers then I introduced the materials! The kids were so excited to see what they had received from your generous donation. They first planned and created a blueprint for what their prosthetic was going to look like, then they created a "prototype" of their design, tested their prototype, and finally they made the finished product with the 3-D pens! We made a poster describing how we used the engineering-design process in this project and that was their final grade of the year. Thank you so much for providing this opportunity for my class. I was so freaked out when I learned I had to teach about biomedical engineering with the new standards, but this made it so hands-on for the kids and it was such a fun project for us all! From the bottom of my heart, thank you!”

I have already planned a unit on engineering in which my scholars will be introduced to biomedical engineering. They will be exploring a story about an eagle who was injured while someone was hunting. The eagle's beak was completely shattered and biomedical engineers made a prosthetic for the eagle's face. My scholars will then receive a broken toy and plan, create, and test a prosthetic to repair the toy. Scholars will use the 3-D pens to create the final product of their prosthetic to attach it to the toy. The 3-D pen will be used in other lessons to enhance scholar's learning by building 3-D models!
