  • A New Classroom Library for Ms. Seiden

    Funded Aug 2, 2019

My number one goal as a teacher is to have every student walk out of my classroom at the end of the year as a lover of reading. Having the right books for my students is so important because all it takes is ONE book to change a hesitant reader into an avid reader. The interests of my students differ and change significantly with each new group of students every year, and your donations allow me to offer such an amazing variety of genres, authors, and levels to my 4th graders. My classroom library is now stocked with new and exciting books for so many different kinds of readers. My students love to curl up on the rug with a good book and read for hours. During the school day when we need to transition out of independent reading, I actually hear moans and groans because they want to keep reading. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all of your generosity and support.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Seiden

  • School Supplies for Super Students!

    Funded May 6, 2019

Now that we have gotten into the grove of the school year, I cannot thank you enough for your donations to this projects. The students were so grateful to have brand new folders and notebooks to start off the year and have been using them every day. Each students has a blue writing folder, yellow math folder, red reading folder, and a green science/social studies folder where they keep all of there paper neat and organized. They also have their own Writer's Notebook that they decorated to reflect their unique personalities and inspire their writing. Because of you, I was able to give my students the supplies they needed to be successful learners on day one. Thank you so much again.”

  • Graphic Novels for All!

    Funded Aug 14, 2018

WOW! I can't even describe the impact this project has made on my classroom. The graphic novels we have received from this project have changed the way my students think about reading. They actually BEG for independent, fun reading time (a time during the day when they can read any book they'd like, not necessarily books at their level). Not only have these books spiked interest in reading for my hesitant readers, but they have created a classroom culture around the love of reading.

My students moan and groan when I ask them to put away their books. What teacher can actually say that? These graphic novels help promote literacy in my students who have severe challenges with reading, as well as English Language Learners. Your donations have increased my student's confidence when it comes to reading. I cannot thank you guys enough!

I often have student from previous years still come back to borrow books from my classroom library, and when they saw all of the new graphic novels, their jaws dropped. They were so excited to see the new bins of graphic novels in my library. It is such a joy as a teacher to have older students from years past still come into my room, say hi, and go straight to my library. I'm glad I have created a safe environment where students who aren't even in my class feel comfortable borrowing books, and you have made it even easier to do so. I appreciate your support more than you will every know!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Seiden

  • School Supplies for Success!

    Funded May 8, 2018

I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your generous donations. The supplies that this project gave us helped the first few weeks of school run smoothly. A lot of my students do not have the means to buy school supplies on their own, so your donations took away the pressure back to school could bring to students and their families.

We use the supplies from this project every day. The folders are used to keep my student's work organized. Each student has 4 folders, all color coded by subject to help them keep track of their work. Additionally, each student has 4 notebooks, one for every subject. They loved decorating their folders the first few days of school to make them their own. I am especially thankful for the PURELL bottles!! Finally, the students absolutely love getting mechanical pencils as a reward for following the classroom expectations or going above and beyond.

I am so grateful for all of your amazing support. I wouldn't be able to run a successful classroom without your help!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Seiden

  • Wobble Chairs for Wonderful Workers!

    Funded Nov 24, 2017

I want to thank you again for all of your generous donations. Some of my students have a VERY hard time sitting still, making it very challenging for them to stay engaged and learn to their full potential. Thanks to you, my students have extra special chairs to help them learn.

Three specific students in my class use these chairs ALL day. They bring them EVERYWHERE!! The bring them from their table spot, to the rug, to their speech teacher, and back. These students have reported that they can actually feel a difference in their ability to focus!!

Thank you again for your continuous support! I am beyond grateful :)”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Seiden

  • Finding Success for Struggling Readers

    Funded Nov 8, 2017

I wish you could see the smile on my student's faces when I showed them the new books you donated. A lot of my students this year struggle significantly in reading, and as a 4th grade teacher, I didn't have the appropriate lower level books in my library for them to read. They are now excited to go into the library and browse for books because they know they will be able to find something that they can not only read, but enjoy.

My 9/10 year old students were tired of reading books that looked like they were for 6 year olds, and I totally understood where they were coming from. They have the mindset of a 9/10 year old, but don't have the ability and skills yet to read the books appropriate for their age. That's where you came in! You have supplied me with the books I need to help my students become not only better readers, but also gain a love for books.

Thanks again for all of your support and love!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Seiden

  • Thriving Through Art

    Funded Aug 5, 2017

Your generous donations have made such a significant impact in my classroom. My students and I are so grateful for the new art supplies and we have already started using them to enhance our learning and create beautiful art. The students feel proud of their work because of the high quality materials you've graciously granted us.

One of the many things we use these materials for is to create self-portraits. My school does awesome work around self-portraits. We align them to the current curriculum to help the students make connections about what they are learning in school to their own life. We use the card stock to create quality posters because the thicker paper holds up better than normal construction paper.

Later in the year, we will being doing much more project based learning. For example, we create water cycle dioramas, a mural of the Eastern Woodland Indian's environment, and a growing map of New Amsterdam. Due to the fact that a lot of my students have special needs and English is not their native language, learning through art gives them the opportunities to receive information in different, more effective ways. Additionally, these materials allow them to express their knowledge through art. Thank you so much again!”

  • Technology and Computer Science Kick-Start!

    Funded Aug 8, 2017

Thank you so much for your generous donations to this projects! This year, I am kick-starting a Computer Science program in my school. My students are the "guinea pigs" this year, trying out STEM in my classroom, but the goal is to one day have the whole school involved. Within the first few Computer Science lessons, my students were HOOKED. They love learning how to code and working as a team to learn more about technology. These materials will help my students learn imperative skills that most schools do not teach their children. I am so excited to be leading this program at my school, and thanks to you, I am able to enrich my students learning in so many more ways.”

  • School Supplies For Super Students!

    Funded Jul 18, 2017

Your generous donations have made such a significant impact on the beginning of the school year. My students come from a community who do not have the means to buy the school supplies you donated, so without you, my students would not have what they need to be successful. Being able to supply the students with what they need has taken away some of the stress of the first few weeks of a new school year.

My students and I are so grateful for the new supplies and we are already using them every day. They treat their new materials with care and respect. My students use the folders to keep their schoolwork neat and organized. They use the notebooks for writing, guided reading, and for logging their independent reading. We use the index cards to make our bulletin boards come to life, make flash cards, and decorate our room with colorful pictures and writing.

School staff members and administrators come into my classroom often and comment on all of the wonderful work my students do and how great my classroom looks. This amazing work is able to happen because of YOU, and your generous donations. Thank you again!!”

  • Help Ms. S Build Her Classroom Library!

    Funded Mar 15, 2017

I can't thank you enough for your generous donations. My students were beyond thrilled about all of the new books and series that are now available to them. Every time we received a new box/package, the students would swarm around while we opened it to see what new books came. Every morning, the students would run to the library with a huge smile to check out the new books.

With the help of your donations, my students interest in reading has skyrocketed. From the beginning of the year to now, I see a significant change in their willingness to read, not only for homework, but for pleasure. These books have helped my students increase their reading level, as well as find a love for books. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Seiden

Where do I even begin? My students are kind, funny, amazing young people who have the potential to learn and grow up successfully, but lack the means necessary. They are hardworking, determined, and just want to learn about the world they live in. Most of my students come from a high poverty neighborhood in the projects of NYC and receive free or reduced breakfast, lunch, and after school snacks. A lot of my students are English Language Learners who have moved to NYC from different countries where English is rarely spoken at home. Some of my students come from one-parent households, live with many family members in small living conditions, or live in a completely different state than their parents with a grandparent/grandparents or an alternative guardian. Overall, my students deal with hardships that no child should go through. They cannot afford the everyday materials needed in school, and that is why I need your help!
