These materials will be used to create an unforgettable experience for our students with lessons that have high engagement. Almost all of the items requested can be reused from year-to-year.
ALL activities used for each transformation are directly related to our 2nd grade standards. Our class transformations will be Pirate (map skills), farm(natural resources), construction (building numbers), camping (resources to products), hospital (making contractions), car racing (force & motion), Secret agents (making inferences), safari (animal needs), miners (How-to writing), reporters (public speaking, technology use), astronaut (moon phases), paleontologist (digging up good writing), ocean (Text features), and pool party (genre parade).
The items listed for purchase in my project will be used in conjunction with many teacher-made resources to bring our lessons to life.
A secret agent room transformation would work. When students arrive for school Caution tape would be around or door and around the classroom. One area of the room will be a 'crime scene' with some clues inside the caution tape. Students will have to use the clues from the 'crime scene' and notes in the top-secret file to make an inference about what has happened in the classroom overnight.
For our Paleontology transformation, students will arrive at a dig site! Our focus will be digging up good writing and students will carefully excavate the sand to find writing ideas to develop. We will also use the dig site as a math station by changing out the materials and we will learn about what life as a paleontologist is like.
Our Astronaut transformation will send students right into orbit! The room will be draped in black with stars and constellations all around. Our main focus will be learning the phases of the moon, but math and reading activities will tie into space as well.
