Choices for Children!
Funded Feb 21, 2020I'm so very grateful for your generous donation to fund Choices magazine. Choices is the health, life skills and social-emotional learning magazine that inspires and informs students in grades 7–12. With so many issues that teens have to navigate, I appreciate this magazine and all the discussions it encourages.
As you might already know, reading scores are stagnant. Only 36% of U.S. 4th graders read proficiently, a rate that has barely moved over 20 years. This means many kids are entering my class without requisite reading comprehension. Choices magazines help students practice their reading and analytical skills as well as address issues that are relevant to both their academic and personal lives.
My students absolutely love Choices, and they're always excited when a new issue arrives!!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Hanif

Funded Oct 8, 2019I'm so very grateful for your generous donation to fund Listenwise. Listenwise is an award-winning listening skills platform. It harnesses the power of listening to advance literacy and learning in all students. Their collection of podcasts and public radio stories keeps teaching connected to the real world and builds student listening skills at the same time.
As you might already know, reading scores are stagnant. Only 36% of U.S. 4th graders read proficiently, a rate that has barely moved over 20 years. This means many kids are entering my class without requisite reading comprehension. This program has greatly improved my students' reading and listening skills. Research shows that if you are not a good listener, you won't be a good reader.
I have had so many students who are always excited when it's time to do a Listenwise assignment. There are many interesting podcasts and news stories that the kids get to hear in class, and they love the features of Listenwise that allow them to slow down the pace if needed or read the transcript along with the audio. It's just an amazing program and we're all so thrilled to have it!”
