My students are growing up in a world that is relying more and more on technology. For this reason, I believe it is critical to incorporate as much technology as possible into my classroom. iPads are an engaging and age-appropriate technological tool for my first graders. iPads would allow my first graders to enhance their digital literacy and build 21st century skills they will use their whole lives. They would give students opportunities to learn basic digital skills to prepare them for when they are older. The sooner students are confident and capable with technology, the sooner they are able to utilize it to its fullest advantage. Additionally, iPads would make learning engaging and fun, while also ensuring that their learning is personalized to fit their needs. My students who are English Language Learners will have access to translators, my students who experience special needs will be able to use programs that meet them where they are at developmentally, and my students that are above grade level will be able to challenge their academic abilities. There is no limit to what iPads could be used for in my classroom-- from mathematics (using math apps such as MobyMax), to literacy (practicing with eBooks and phonics programs), to SEL (taking pictures of one another, creating positive messaging) I think iPads would be an invaluable resource in my classroom.
