My students must keep up with the latest advancements in education to spark an interest in reading. Education is changing every single day, and so are the interest of my students. Students in my classroom will be able to research and complete assignments that they cannot complete at home due to lack of a computer and the internet. Our school library is currently being redesigned and not accessible at this time. The Chromebooks will also be used to access Reading programs to assist with their reading skills and their reading levels. A majority of these students are reading on third and fourth-grade levels. I would like to have Chromebooks to ignite a passion for reading, exploring and to hold their interests and keep them reading in my classroom.
Struggling readers sometimes have behavior problems because of their inability to read and comprehend the subject matter. Technology can be a tremendous benefit to differentiating instruction and supporting learners' success with literacy tasks. Used strategically, technology tools can support individualized needs while supporting instruction of a shared, core curriculum. Electronic references such as dictionaries, thesauruses, encyclopedias. Definitions, translations, and explanations are now a click away. Identify dictionaries and other online tools to use in the program, teach their use, and expect students to use them to develop their vocabulary skills. Look for tools with text to speech to read the word, read the definitions, and support word study. They will need explicit instruction and guided practice to become proficient. The materials will make a huge difference in my students' learning and ensure academic success.
