My students are in a dual immersion classroom, where 90% of their day is taught in Spanish. Yes, I have English speaking students learning in Spanish. Parents are giving their children the opportunity to become successful in life by providing them with a second language. Our school offers a dual program as a challenge to students, and is considered one of the best in our district. My students learn everything that other first grade students learn, but they learn it in Spanish. It is fascinating to see that what I teach them, their little brains automatically transfer to their knowledge in English.
My students love to write. We write a lot! Writing is a big part of our day, and my first graders are already writing 2 and even 3 paragraphs, in Spanish! I am extremely proud of the accomplishments we have made this year, and I look forward to the many more accomplishments we have yet to meet.
