Beautiful Boundaries
Funded Dec 23, 2014On Friday when our new rug arrived and I unrolled it the students were thrilled! They loved the rug, with it's beautiful colors, bright sun and clouds. One little boy immediately realized that we could sit on the letters for reading and the numbers for math-"That's awesome" he exclaimed!
When I told them, that people they had never met had donated money so that they could have this new rug, their little faces lit up. They couldn't believe that people that didn't know them would be so
kind and generous.
Already, our morning meeting and group times are smoother because of the clear boundaries provided by this rug. Not only does it brighten up the room, but everyone has a spot to sit without having to worry or be cramped. We can sit on the clouds, sit on a color or a letter. We have used it to find the letters in our name, sort our word wall words and alphabetize. I know we will be using it in even more ways as the days and weeks go by.
Thanks again for the kindness and generosity you have shown towards myself and my class.”

Do The Wobble While You Work
Funded Sep 4, 2014My students were thrilled to see the wobble stools & putty waiting on them when they arrived at school today! I loved seeing how excited they were to receive these items.
We are using our wobble stools in 3 spots: both teacher tables and the work-station. At the teacher table students are working 1-1 with one of the teachers or assistants on work at their individual level. The wobble stools allow for the students to move and wiggle while they work. Research has proven time again that movement increases student learning and I can see the difference!
Being able to move, wiggle and wobble as they work and then also use the putty to have a brain break or get their thoughts going. These items have increased my students productivity and their willingness to complete their work.
Thanks again for donating to our project and helping us receive these awesome items for our classroom!”

Sensory Seekers
Funded Sep 30, 2013My students were thrilled with the new additions to our sensory room! The boys (all 10 of them) couldn't believe that people they didn't know had given money to help furnish the sensory room. It was precious to see how touched they were that people had reached out to help. Their excitement mounted as the boxes began to arrive and our maintenance staff came to install the items.
They could not wait to take turns in the swing and it has definitely proven to be the most popular calming and working spot. I love looking up and seeing one of the boys curled up in the swing with a book, the iPad or just listening to music to calm down.
Thank you for graciously donating to this project, having these resources available in a Sensory Room for my students is a dream come true!”

Math Read Alouds
Funded Dec 1, 2009Today, I needed to spend some time working on a variety of different math concepts. I needed to be able to actively engage my class and involve them in something that would hold their attention, activate their schema, and build new skills related to our math standards and their individual needs. With the books purchased with your donation, I was able to do just that! These wonderful, engaging, read alouds provide my students with literacy connections that are concrete and relate to what they know, want to know, and need to know regarding math.
Thank you for your willingness to donate to Donors Choose, but most all thank you for choosing our project and allowing my class the opportunity to have these new books!”

Mrs. Greene

Funded Aug 28, 2009I had the joy of watching my students be engaged, intrigued, and excited this week as they delved into reading their new magazines. With bright colors, beautiful photographs, and relevant topics, these magazines ignited a new fire in my students. We have already gotten several issues, but their favorite so far has been one in Time for Kids that featured the problems Florida is having with Anacondas that are being released into the wild. They loved the pictures, graphs, and features of this article.
Yet another issue had a feature on hurricanes, a topic my fourth graders have just begun discussing in their science studies. The boys were wide eyed-surveying the damage caused by past hurricanes. Your donation allowed these students to have magazines in their hands that are on their level and interesting. Thank you for taking the time to find and fund our project! I hope you will come back to Donors Choose and see what other exciting projects we have planned.
Thanks again!”
