A Sharpie-Palooza for Mr. Graupera's Art Class!
Funded Sep 29, 2022In Sunset Park Brooklyn there is a group of young girls and boys who are dedicated
to art of drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, and beyond. They are the
students of P.S. 503. We are a dynamic neighborhood elementary school located at
the corner of 4th Ave at 59th St. Every day our students create works of art that
improve their problem solving skills, support math and literacy, and raise self
esteem.
Donor's Choose provides our school with much needed supplies for our art
projects. By donating to this wonderful organization and helping schools like mine
provide quality materials to budding artist, you have given my students an invaluable art material. My students have been extremely excited to have many brand, new sharpies for their drawing activities this year. Especially the colored sharpies that have been such an added surprise that has added so much joy to our art room. Sharpies are used daily in the creating of complex art projects and in sketchbook drawing.

Funded Dec 22, 2010Thank you for donating chess books to our chess club. The students have already begun working through many of the tactical problems in the book Bobby Fischer Teaches Chess. This coupled with our monthly tournament practice has truly deepened their love and understanding of the game. Many students have won medals for winning the majority of their tournament games. As a team we have consistently placed 6th or 7th place out of 30 teams. Very impressive considering that this is our first year competing as a team. Your donation will have a long lasting effect on our performance for years to come.”

Funded Nov 18, 2010Your donation of has made it possible for 50 children in two of my art classes to own and use quality sketchbooks. The kids were very excited and eager to use their sketchbooks upon seeing the thick, hard-bound books. Our first lesson was to use the books to sketch from Van Gogh's A Starry Night in anticipation of their trip to the Modern Museum of Art. Since then we have been using them regularly to sketch and plan ideas for larger, more complicated art projects. The sketchbooks are also being used during their science classes to draw and label plant and insect anatomy. ”
