Experiencing the World One Book at a Time
Funded Nov 28, 2017Thank you so much for your generous donation. This nonfiction collection is exactly what I needed to help expose my students to the parts of the world that they may never have the chance to experience on their own. When I told them we would be receiving them this week they were so excited. Nonfiction texts have become a high interest read in my classroom since we are learning how authors present facts and details about a topic. They love that they including different text features and are learning how they connect to the text.
We appreciate your support for our classroom and literacy! Happy Holidays from 3-2!”

Funded Nov 28, 2017Thank you so much for your generous donation. My class and I were extremely excited to receive the package containing all of our new books. The kids were exceptionally excited to see the Katie Woo collection and all of the different National Geographic books that they will have available to read. Those books in particular sparked a very interesting discussion on the difference between fiction and nonfiction texts. It was great to see the kids talking about the different text features and parts of a plot line.
I know that we will be putting all of these wonderful new books to great use, and we certainly wouldn't be doing so without your help. We appreciate your support for our classroom and literacy. Thank you again, and Happy Holidays from 3-2!”

Funded Nov 29, 2017Thank you so much for your wonderful donation. I wish you could have been here to see how the boys in my class reacted to the Sports Illustrated and sports themed books. It prompted a whole discussion about basketball, and apparently they think Lebron James is the best basketball player, they've obviously never experienced Michael Jordan! I had to chime in a bit and let them know about that awesome Chicago Bulls team in the early 90's. Needless to say they are extremely excited to get reading!
We appreciate your continued support for our class and literacy! Happy Holidays from 3-2!”

Funded Nov 29, 2017Thank you so much for you donation of the Magic Tree House Series to our classroom library. The kids were so excited when they realized we had the entire collection available to us now. These books are definitely a series that they've come to love when they were in second grade and are thrilled to have available this year. They had the chance to preview the collection and already began planning which ones they wanted to read first!
We are looking forward to putting all of these books to good use, and can't wait to get reading! Thank you again and Happy Holidays from 3-2!”

Books Give Wings to the Mind
Funded Nov 28, 2017Thank you so much for your wonderful donation. My class was extremely excited to see that new reading material arrived late yesterday afternoon. I wish you could have seen their faces when I opened the box and pulled them out. My young men were thrilled over Diary of a Whimpy Kid and the Stink series, where as my girls were discussing who was doing to read Dork Diaries first! With these materials I know that these books will keep my students interested in reading more and help improve their literacy skills.
We appreciate your support and cannot wait to put these books to good use. Thank you again, and Happy Holidays from 3-2!”

Funded Nov 28, 2017Thank you so much for your generous donation. My class, as well as the Social Studies teacher, were very excited to see all of our new books arrive. They had so many questions I could hardly keep up! Unfortunately teaching Social Studies isn't a priority in today's educational curriculum, however I have always been a big fan. I feel as though learning about historical events in the past help us understand some of the historical events that occur in today's society.
I try often to pair nonfiction texts with my literary texts in class so that my students make connections between real life events and what they may read in books today. With your help they will gain a better understanding of some very influential people and how our government is structured, as well as how it runs. I know that they are currently learning that concept in Social Studies and it will definitely help gain a better understand of these things.
Thank you again for your donation! Happy Holidays from 3-2!”

Funded Nov 28, 2017Thank you so much for your generous donation. The kids were very excited to receive the new books, especially my boys! They went crazy when they saw the DC Superhero books! Apparently they're big fans of Batman, so I'm extremely glad that I put that on our Donors Choose list.
Based off of their reaction I can tell that these books are going to be put to good use, which I am grateful for because getting my boys to read at times can be difficult. My little ladies were also thrilled to see the Cam Jansen books. They were all trying to figure out a rotation of the books so they could read them before our holiday break.
We appreciate your continued support for our class and can't wait to get reading! Happy Holidays from 3-2!”

Funded Nov 28, 2017Thank you so much for you generous donation to our classroom library. The kids were so excited when the boxes began to come into the classroom. I wish you could have been here to see how excited they were to see the Fly Guy series had arrived. Luckily they were willing to share with one another and preview the books before I put them on our bookshelf for reading.
I know my students come from very diverse and difficult backgrounds and often need something to help them escape reality so these books were exactly what they hoped for. They couldn't stop talking about the many adventures Fly Guy goes on. I actually had to tell them not to spoil the books for others, and many of them ended up pair reading so that they could get their hands on them.
I thank you again for giving my class something to look forward to and appreciate your continued support for all teachers. People like you help make our jobs easier by bringing new materials to our rooms. Happy Holidays from 3-2!”

Funded Nov 28, 2017Thank you so much for your generous donations. I wish you could have been here to see the look on my students face as the box arrived, I opened it up, and showed them the books that we donated to our growing classroom library. Our school allows students to never set foot in a Camden public school, however there are a limited amount of resources. Since I've started with the school close to 4 years ago, I've pushed for additional reading materials knowing that there are times where a good book is the only adventure my kids will experience. Unfortunately we don't have one in our building, but with your help I am able to continue building upon the books I do have.
My students come from mainly Spanish speaking families so their reading levels vary, as does their comprehension skills. I made sure to order reading materials that meet many different criteria such as reading levels, fiction and nonfiction, genres, and interests between both my girls and boys. I wanted to be able to expose them to as many reading options as possible so that they can expand on their limited English skills. Each day they read for fifteen minutes independently while at school and are required to read an additional thirty minutes at home each night, receiving parent signatures for the completion of their reading. I assess student reading levels and assign them a color. These colors help ensure that students are reading books that they can comprehend, read fluently and demonstrate understanding within different concepts taught in class. This allows them to feel confident in their reading, enjoy it and continue to grow.
Third grade is a critical year for students, since there is such a drastic change in the standards they're exposed to. Your donation will help many of my struggling readers continue to close their reading gaps and take ownership for their own learning through the choice of their reading materials. Again, we cannot thank you enough and appreciate your support.”

Ms. Nicholl

Funded Nov 14, 2017Thank you for you most kind and generous donation of language arts and writing centers to our third grade classroom. I cannot even being to describe how excited my class was to see the large box enter the room. They were unaware that I put in for the donation and were extremely shocked to hear that someone sent us center activities. Your wonderful donation will be used to help seventeen students improve in language arts and writing. This donation is particularly useful seeing as though most of my students come from homes that are not primarily English speaking. It will allow me to expose them to the structure of the English language and expand upon skills taught in third grade. Attached are a few photographs of the kids putting the centers to use. Again, we appreciate your donation and will continue to learn and grow.”
