My students need class sets of multiple novels that will be used in my high school ELA classes for literary study, analysis, and discussion. Your generous donations to my project will allow my diverse group of students to be exposed to challenging, new literature. I currently teach grades 8-11, which includes College Prep, Honors, and Advanced Placement (AP) classes. Allegro is currently in our third year of operation, and as a growing and relatively new school, we are still trying to build our library so that we are able to serve all our students' needs. In class, we will build units around these novels, studying them for literary devices, meaning, writing style, vocabulary, and more, while also rounding out the students' knowledge with context on the era and social/political issues discussed in each novel. In addition, new novels will provide new material for my students to write about, a skill which is strongly emphasized in my classroom. Our literature studies always result in discussions that encourage critical thinking from my students and allow them to formulate, analyze, and share their own opinions about the subject material, in both written and verbal form. These novels will help in building upon the skills we have already learned in class and applying them to new, exciting texts that will further encourage the students' reading habits, writing ability, creativity, and critical thinking skills!
