I teach English and Journalism at a Detroit Public Schools Community District high school called Benjamin Carson High School of Science and Medicine. Our school is a medicine focused school located in midtown Detroit with numerous partnerships with local hospitals, including the Detroit Medical Center. Along with a strong core curriculum, we offer unique opportunities, including hospital externships, a Certified Nurse Assistant program, and duel enrollment courses for college credit. My students comprise a diverse mix of backgrounds, hailing from all over Detroit and the neighboring town of Hamtramck. They are bright, energetic, hopeful, strong, and resilient young people with high goals of achieving more and creating a better world for themselves and those they love.
