  • Fuller Tummies Prepare Fuller Minds

    Funded Dec 18, 2024

You and your donation are the epitome of this beloved season; the season of joy, gratitude, and generosity. Unlike any of my previous projects funded via DonorsChoose, all of this project’s materials are consumable goods to be delivered directly to (and to be consumed by) students in need. Please know that you impact will be physically felt by my students each and every time a request is made by a student who otherwise might come to, and later leave, school without eating breakfast nor lunch at all.

You brighten my day and that light will continue to shine through the smiles on my students’ faces.

I’m both humbled and filled with pride thanks to this community.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Gonzalez

  • Setting the Stage for Success

    Funded Oct 15, 2024

In addition to the generous anonymous donor who matched all donations toward this project, I'm proud to celebrate that NYers from across the state, and beyond, collectively made this project a reality, making the funders of this project that much more special and meaningful to our community and students.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Gonzalez

  • BTS Essentials 2023

    Funded Oct 23, 2023

This project was like a care package for my classroom. The chosen selection of snacks was well-received and didn't last long enough before all had been consumed — just a few days.

The essential classroom materials that you helped fund have absolutely continued to be cherished still today. I cannot emphasize enough how a simple pencil can have such a profound impact on teaching and learning when our students would otherwise arrive to school lacking basic materials.

You are a trend-setter. You are a change-maker. You are appreciated.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Gonzalez

  • Press Print!

    Funded Oct 2, 2023

Since this project was fulfilled, my students have benefitted from the purchased printer every school day. This Canon printer has filled a major void in our once printer-less classroom and the choice to request a MegaTank variety has proven to be a very effective one. Thanks to your generosity, there is never a request to print something: a found image that a student feels will enhance their project/presentation, a worksheet, or a resource that a colleague needs for an upcoming lesson, to name a few.

The value of your commitment to education is incalculable. Equally infinite is my gratitude to you for playing a part in enhancing my classroom and providing such a simple, yet essential amenity for my students!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Gonzalez

  • School Year 22-23 Basics

    Funded Sep 21, 2022

This project helped the end of a tough school year run pretty smoothly! My students were so excited to be handed mechanical pencils to use in class.

They also appreciated the ability to write on the whiteboard in class, particularly with a choice of colors and stroke weights. And of course, something as mundane as a laminator and its thermal pouches cannot be underestimated in terms of function and usefulness in the classroom!

The crux of the project was reintroducing 3D printing pens to an elective class that provides for a reflective and mindful period, twice per week.”

  • No Crickets Here! An Exciting and Welcoming Classroom with Cricut

    Funded May 15, 2022

The generosity expressed by you and so many other donors just like you can be described as nothing less than remarkable, which I can only match with equal sentiment in the form of gratitude. I am humbled each and every time one of my DonorsChoose projects is fully-funded, and this time you are partially responsible for this!

The materials and resources funded (principally a Cricut die-cutter and some relevant tools) has inspired creativity and introduced colorful aesthetic into the classroom, as well as provided a means for creating functional and incentive-based items for student use and/or enjoyment. Whether we're designing and producing custom-made stickers inspired by students' artistic interests, or promoting a welcoming and inclusive space aided by the use of placards and original signage, the possibilities are endless in our learning space and that's all thanks to your decision to support our classroom.

    Many thanks.”

  • Intro to 3D Printing: 3Doodler Edu Learning Pack

    Funded May 27, 2022

This project was a lifesaver. Thanks so much for funding these awesome hand-held 3D printing pens from 3Doodler! This education pack includes a set of 12 individual devices, and a much-needed supply of filament inserts in a variety of colors. With all necessary materials supplied, my students were prepared to explore these gadgets and create tangible projects on the day of delivery.

Working in pairs (or sometimes groups of three), classes shared their excitement to become "makers" using this unique media of PLA plastic. I'm so grateful to support my computer scientists with an opportunity to apply their artistic imaginations and develop technical skills through the process of designing a prototype.”

  • 3D Printing: Students as Thinkers and Makers

    Funded Apr 30, 2022

The addition of our new 3D printer into the Computer Science classroom was a huge surprise for our scholars! Students were curious about the big machine that they hadn't seen in the classroom the day prior. Students, in awe, went on to inquire about its function and purpose.

I excitedly introduced classes to a free online CAD (Computer-Aided Design) program grounded in user-friendly educational applications. The 6th-grade cohort spent about 2 weeks exploring various creative tools and ultimately designing their own individual concepts.

Since then, our 3D printer has been used to craft many functional tools including classroom-related materials, small gifts and trinkets used as student incentives (by request), and resources that accompany/improve other original creations (such as tools used with our classroom's Cricut machine).”

    With gratitude,

  • Developing Computer Scientists With Programmable Robots

    Funded Dec 18, 2021

My students and I are so grateful for the generosity that donors have displayed in supporting our Computer Science classroom. This course is the most recent addition to our school's curriculum and it has been extremely affected by the challenges of remote learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our new SPHERO BOLT robots came at a perfect time of the year and we were able to transition from computer-based online programming to activities that are very tactile and immediately rewarding!

My students were overjoyed to begin working with these new robots and were eager to explore their features and play! Once students became familiar with the basic operations, we were able to engage in a challenge that tasked us with coding the robots to complete a student-generated maze/obstacle course.

My students immediately recognized the code blocks that SPHERO edu utilizes as similar to those used for SCRATCH. The comfort they developed with code blocks and identifying different categories of code made programming our SPHERO BOLTS much more accessible.”

  • Two Screens Are Better Than One!

    Funded Mar 29, 2021

Your generosity is greatly appreciated, especially since you chose to donate to teachers during a global pandemic that affected school communities in ways no one could imagine.

Your contribution to my project, "Two Screens Are Better Than One," was part of an important effort to provide supports for teachers offering remote instruction. My funded project helped my students learn in a more accessible way because of my new ability to organize lesson materials across two computer screens while streaming my lesson via Zoom.

Thank you again for thinking of educators during this time.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Gonzalez
