Math and Science
Funded Nov 29, 2018Thank you for your generous donations we are truly grateful.
Being able to use the headphones purchased with your donations in the classroom has given students the ability to focus. The headphones also enable instruction from videos to be presented clearly and concisely. Using a dual headphone adapter where two students can listen to the same video from one device has enhanced collaboration amongst students. They enjoy watching videos (both instructional and fun) together. Many students who prefer individualized instruction love using the headphones both during class and when they come to visit during lunch. Thank you again for your kindness.”

Funded Feb 22, 2019Thank you again for your generous donations. My students were able to utilize the headphones purchased with your donations to help them succeed in passing the Common Core Algebra 1 Regents. Being able to cancel out noise around them and stay focused on the resources available was beyond the shadow of a doubt a gigantic help in advancing them to success. I want to express my deepest gratitude and joy to all my friends and family who always come through whenever I put projects up on donorschoose. I also want to thank donorschoose for such a wonderful idea. Good work people.”

Weapons of Math Instruction
Funded May 24, 2017Thank you for providing our class with much needed supplies through your generous donations. My students loved the new pencils and erasers, especially the colored pencils. It's amazing how the littlest things make such an enormous impact on our classroom daily.
With your donations we purchased pencils with a holographic shaft...even I think they are really cool. When I showed them to my students they couldn't get enough. I actually use them as rewards and the results are amazing. Everyone wants one!
This school I have a class of 8th graders who will have the ability to take the Algebra1 Regents in June and I have some thoughts on how to incorporate technology into many lessons. Stay tuned for another project incorporating Algebra and Technology. Thanks again!”

Geometry Through Origami
Funded Feb 16, 2017Geometry through Origami has become "that thing" all the kids in my school want to do. I teach 8th grade math in a 6-12th grade school and when the 6th and 7th graders see the beautiful Origami creations at the end of the school year, they can't wait to be participants. What a great way to coerce them into learning math while having fun. Additionally, the practice of Origami offers lessons in patience, tolerance and perseverance. So, using Origami to teach is a win-win situation in every aspect.
The Origami unit starts out with students creating basic Platonic solids and simple polyhedral. Students create tetrahedrons, cubes, octahedron and icosahedron. Since each Platonic solid is more intricate than the one before it pushes my students to take risks and be patient. I have witnessed even the shyest, most apprehensive students come alive using Origami. Once they have mastered creating the Platonic solids I give them the opportunity to be creative. Because of generous donations from friends, family and caring individuals coupled with the awesome Donorschoose.org business model, I have amassed a repository of Origami project books and videos for my students to peruse. One book simply teaches how to create paper airplanes (some of which can be intricate) to Origami Star Wars figures and Pokmon.
We have had so many Origami experiences over the last few years, I'd like to share one. The lesson in patience and tolerance was apparent when one student decided she would create a dodecahedron, a 12-faced solid from 90 pieces of origami paper. She diligently worked for hours folding each piece, while color-coding her design for maximum effect. After a few mishaps...she was dejected and ready to quit. I of course explained to her, "Quitting was not an option". She came back with tenacity and vengeance to complete the project. When she finished, her gratitude and excitement were overwhelming...it was truly a life changing experience.”

Funded May 17, 2016My students are so grateful for the abundance of origami materials your generous donations provided. They were able to create Platonic solids and other polyhedral as a hands on geometry project. Additionally, their creative sides were unearthed through the creation of origami flowers and fireworks.

Fund-A-Mental Math
Funded Aug 23, 2015Thank you for your willingness to help our classroom through your generous donations. My students and I are very grateful. Having an ample supply of pencils and erasers in the math classroom is synonymous to having salt and pepper in the kitchen. Taking State assessments can cause students to experience many forms of anxiety. Having and knowing the pencils and erasers we are using on a daily basis are a direct result of wonderful people willing to give of themselves, my students could be a little less anxious during testing and a lot more appreciative. Math is important, but kindness and caring can solve the hardest equations.”

DEVELOPING MINDS: Young and Old
Funded Mar 7, 20152016 is here and technology is everywhere. Students in middle school have never known a world without electronics and are savvy when it comes to technology. In our math classroom we use electronic devices daily to enhance learning. My students have access to many software programs on line to engage them in learning math. Using the Surface Pro 3, I have found a plethora of skill building tools and games I use to increase engagement and help my students want to learn math. Using interactive electronic devices has increased motivation and perseverance in some of the most academically challenged students. Thank you so much for your support and generous donations.”

Funded Mar 19, 2014Thank you so much for your generous donations making our project a reality. When teachers have instructional resources aligned with the content and goals of learning objectives, every student is provided a better opportunity to learn.
The resources you all have provided enable my students to have pencils and erasers to use during math every day. We are all truly grateful. One student remarked, "Now I will always be prepared for class and wouldn't have a good excuse for not writing down my notes".
I always convey the idea of making mistakes as an avenue for learning to my students. Having a supply of erasers has eased some students into believing this to be true and they are applying their beliefs in the classroom. It is a privilege to watch students grasp the concept of striving for perfection. Thank you again.”

Funded Jan 8, 2012Thank you all for your generous donations! It is truly a gift to watch kids utililize their creative abilities and have fun doing math. The supplies we used helped to design watches, explore the miracle of flight and provided months of other hands-on activities.
Anytime my students saw the piles of markers and colored paper waiting for them their eyes would light up and their curiosity ignited. Watching and helping the kids use the materials to construct masterpieces was a learning experience for everyone, especially me.
Again, my sincerest appreciation goes out to all who helped my student's be able to, "CREATE IT"! ”

Video Projector
Funded May 20, 2011Your generous donations have made a huge difference in our seventh grade math classroom and for those donations we are forever grateful.
The video projector that was purchased with your donations has enabled our classroom to come alive and allowed my students to interact with many forms of media including the World Wide Web. The videos pertaining to math and the fun websites that we can project in the classroom have provided many hours of instruction and enjoyment. All of the lessons can be seen clearly and in high definition from anywhere in the classroom providing a brilliant visual experience for all students”
