  • Love, Life, and Laughter in a Library

    Funded Aug 15, 2024

Thank you so much for helping to build our classroom library! These books are going to be LOVED! I cannot wait to share as they come in.

We have been exploring new books twice a week and these kiddos are ready to read! Your donation is going to make it that much easier for me to provide enticing, fresh options. I appreciate you so much!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Sterling

  • Nature Books to Inspire and Carpets to Comfort

    Funded May 10, 2024

Thank you so much for supporting my project to bring nature themed books to my 6th grade students. Our focused time with these books will be more comfortable with our new rugs! We will learn ways to help our planet and our communities.

Cheers to new books and continued learning!”

  • New Games and a New Camera

    Funded Oct 4, 2022

I am especially grateful for our new games and camera. The reading games were a hit with small groups in the classroom. I was also able to use them with my tutoring students as a end of session activity. We loved the inference practice in School Days and we were able to expand our vocabularies and discuss word families when playing Boggle.

The camera was perfect for our historian on Student Council. We were able to get photos at our Thanksgiving event on campus, as well as help take pictures of other events like our fun run and music concerts.”

  • Soft Start Activities - Challenged and in Sync

    Funded Oct 4, 2022

We are loving the new games! The kids have been working collaboratively to solve all these problems in the games, especially Rush Hour and Gravity Maze. The Lego set and Plus Plus blocks give them ample opportunities for creativity. We do Plus Plus challenge cards that ask them to create different objects.

We use the Playdoh and Legos as extensions in social studies. Students work to recreate landmarks and other items from the civilizations we study in ancient history. We had pyramids, bridges, and aqueducts built this year!”

  • Organized and Sitting Pretty

    Funded Aug 10, 2022

Thank you so much for the donations. We loved the flexibility provided by the stools and new floor cushions. The stools fit perfectly at our small group table and allow students to easily move around the room. We used the cushions all year for reading spots, watching presentations and the occasional movie, and when kiddos had injuries and needed to elevate ankles or knees.

I've loved being able to display new chapter books and books that connect to our reading units on our floating shelves. The hanging organizer and clear bins have allowed me to keep materials organized for absent students and language arts units.”

  • Great Books Build Us Up

    Funded Mar 9, 2022

We can’t wait to dive in to these books! We are so grateful! We’ll start right away with the poetry and Middle Ages books and know they will add to our enjoyment and understanding. The novels will be such an incredible addition to our end of year book clubs.”

  • Getting Cozy and Comfy in ELA

    Funded Aug 12, 2021

Thank you so much for our new seating! My students love to cozy up with the pillows during reading time. The beach chairs and bean bags make great choices when it's time to work with a partner in different spots around the room. The wobble stool is a favorite - it gets used every day!

We started using the pillows, bean bags, and beach chairs right away. I wasn't able to get the wobble stool built when it first arrived, but their faces when it was ready were priceless! It's definitely something on my list for future projects - it gives kids the movement they need when sitting and is also adjustable so all of the students can use it.”

  • Chromebooks for Kids!

    Funded Aug 31, 2020

We have been doing online and in person school since September. Our new laptops help guarantee that all of my students have access to our curriculum, much of which is online. These additional computers help ease the burden of being short on technology on our campus.

These laptops are earning their keep! We use them daily for our math lessons, allowing the students to watch animations about their math topic, get question help, and play online math games. We listen to and read our weekly social studies and science articles, too, and are able to watch videos about ancient Greece, cell division, and Egyptian farming techniques.

Another great feature of extra laptops is the ability to include our online students through Google Meets. We have been able to station a laptop with in person students who are doing science labs, and then can video chat with students at home.”

  • Daily Diverse Picture Books for Big Kids

    Funded Jul 27, 2017

Thank you so much for your donations. We are thoroughly enjoying the books as read alouds in our classroom. The best part of these picture books has been our discussions after we read. We have discussed stereotypes, bullying, and jumping to conclusions. We love the ones that have surprise endings like Bring Me a Rock and Poor Little Guy.

In our classroom, we read one of these picture books each day. Often times, I have students volunteer to read. They practice the book the day before and then read with expression and excitement. Our discussions are stronger after listening to their peers read. Some students also reread these books during our independent reading time. Others come in after school to share some of their favorites with their younger siblings.

I have a few students who have read almost all of the picture books that were donated on their own, even ones we haven't read as a class. Valentina loves to read the books with strong characters and surprise endings. Annie enjoys rereading the books we have read together. She will stack them up and sit herself in a comfy spot and just read, read, read!”

  • Mad for Math Games

    Funded Aug 25, 2014

Thank you so much for the math games! Each time I get a new game out, the students' faces light up. They love to see what's next. I'm excited to see them so enthusiastic about games that build their math skills.

Every three days we have learning lab in class and the students use the games in rotations. They are practicing their addition facts using the "sun puzzles". They are starting to see the relationship between different equations that equal the same sum. When they use the fact-family wipe off boards, they are able to create their own fact families. Each student can work at their own level with these boards, which I love. They also love to grab the discovery cans, which allow them to work on various skills with manipulatives and different task cards.

Additionally, I am able to use the different games to provide intervention when needed. The students who struggle with certain topics are more excited to continue practicing when they get to use one of the games. They look forward to moving the addition cars around or seeing which pieces fit into each of the sun puzzles. Thank you again for these amazing resources!”

Welcome to 7th grade English! In our classroom, students practice and develop daily literacy skills, cooperation, determination, and patience through independent reading and writing, group discussion, and public speaking. While we learn and grow together, students support each other's thinking in a family atmosphere where ideas are valued, and risk-taking is encouraged. Our students attend school in the middle of a major downtown area. They come from economically and culturally diverse backgrounds. They face many challenges ranging from bringing basic school supplies to the classroom to meeting academic expectations. Our school instills a love of learning in each student and encourages each and every student to aim for higher learning. Many of our students will be the first member of their family to attend college.
