  • Nonfiction Graphic Texts for Middle Schoolers

    Thank you so much for helping me provide accessible nonfiction texts for my students. So many of my students gravitate towards graphic novels, but we were lacking a collection of nonfiction texts in graphic novel format. Many students also have expressed an interest in reading nonfiction for independent reading. With this project, I am now able to provide enjoyable, accessible, and informative nonfiction texts for my students. I so look forward to returning to the in-person classroom to be able to use these amazing books with my students. Thank you again for your kindness and generosity.”

  • The Bigger, Better Special Education Library!

When I first discovered Donors Choose about a year ago, I had no idea that my offerings of graphic novels for students would grow exponentially to the point of needing additional shelving! Now, I will be able to adequately store all of these amazing books from generous donors in a way that is accessible and organized for my students.   • Graphic Novel Series for Middle Schoolers

    Thank you so much for providing me with new series for my middle schoolers. As a special education teacher and as a middle school teacher, getting books to students that they love can often be a challenge. Many of my students are reluctant readers, and graphic novels open their minds to the joys of reading. Additionally, these graphic novel series are on the appropriate levels for my students so that they can grow as readers. My students absolutely adore graphic novels. They are huge fans of Raina Telgemeier, Gene Luen Yang, and Kazu Kabushi. They get so upset when they get to the end of a great graphic novel, and even more upset when they get to the end of an engaging graphic novel series. Students, not just my own, are more motivated to read when they are interested in what they are reading. We use the Teachers College Reading and Writing Curricula to teach literacy. This involves a lot of choice for students as per what they want to read in order to practice the strategies that we are teaching. I want to put more of what they are interested in on the shelf.
