  • Creativity with Colored Pencils

    Funded Jan 24, 2025

Thank you so much for your generosity! I cannot believe how quickly this got funded. I'm so excited because the students can start using the supplies during the rest of the school year and get their creativity going.

On behalf of the English department, I say thank you for your support.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Mochowski

  • Writing Well, or Good Writing?

    Funded Dec 4, 2023

From my colleague who asked to post the project:

"I hope this note finds you in great spirits. I am writing on behalf of the Gloucester High School English department to express our deepest gratitude for your generous contribution towards the grant that enabled us to purchase 100 grammar books for our students.

Your commitment to supporting education has made a significant impact on our ability to provide valuable resources to our students. These grammar books will not only enhance their understanding of the English language but also serve as a foundation for their academic success.

Your belief in the power of education and your willingness to invest in our students' future is truly inspiring. Thanks to your generosity, we can now create an enriched learning environment that fosters a love for language and literature."”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Mochowski

  • Visual Thinking

    Funded Sep 16, 2021

These art pads have been a game changer! The students appreciate having their own books where they have the freedom to be creative in expressing their understanding.

I shared the art pads with two colleagues in the English department so we could test out sketchnoting with different grade levels and to share ideas and give one another feedback.

Here is a note from one of my colleagues:

"Sketchnoting has become an essential part of my English Classroom. As a teacher for students with disabilities, sketchnoting opens up a variety of ways for the student to process and demonstrate comprehension of the text at hand. Not only does it give students a choice, but it provides an outlet for their creativity and thinking. These sketchnotes can be utilized as a scaffold to generate ideas before having students complete a writing assignment. I am so grateful to have been given this opportunity!"

Your generosity and support are greatly appreciated.”

  • Help Students Get into "Good Trouble"

    Funded Jul 4, 2021

Your generosity and thoughtfulness is greatly appreciated.

For our school's summer reading program, each grade has a theme. For sophomores it's "Kindness," and Book One of The March Trilogy is the anchor book. On the first day of school, students saw the cases lined up on the classroom's counter. And because so many students had read the first, they were excited to continue reading John Lewis' story.

The English department is also excited. We now have the books on hand to enhance our curriculum, especially our graphic novel course. We are all thankful for you who support and believe in a public school education.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Mochowski

  • Starting Over - Kleen Slates for English Language Leaners

    Funded Mar 24, 2021

Thank you!! The boards went to the math, history and science teachers for the ELL beginner classes.

You'd think teenagers wouldn't be impressed with a white board, but they really like them. They get to interact (safely distanced) with peers, learn new skills, and gain confidence because it's a low stakes way to show understanding.

Because of your support, students have more opportunities to show understanding while learning to communicate in English. The math teacher and her student teacher used the boards to do a "think-pair-share" activity. (It's one where students think individually and then share and collaborate to solve a problem.) They all had a lot of fun.

Thank you again for helping the kids feel and be successful.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Mochowski

  • Antiracist Students

    Funded Sep 17, 2020

Having *Stamped: Antiracism, Racism and You* available for my students has been an invaluable resource. I can't thank you all enough.

As the saying goes, "Knowledge is power." The information in this book has deepened students' knowledge and thus made their power greater. They have facts. They have the truth - which isn't meant to be pretty - so moving forward they can make better decisions for themselves and our communities.

Our country was founded that all men are created equal. Reading this book will help students to put substance in the words and help our country live its values.”

    With gratitude,

  • Just a Little Help to Get Just Mercy

    Funded Aug 6, 2020

Thank you so much for your generosity and support. During this very difficult time your contributions have helped my students to stay engaged and encouraged.

The two overarching essential questions for my classes are "Who am I?" and "How does my environment influence me?" because they resonate strongly with teens. My students are able to fully explore these questions in *Just Mercy.* and raises their consciousness about the injustices happening in society.

This pandemic has made school so much more challenging for our young people, but engaging with quality books and topics they care about has made it so much better for them. Your donations helped make this possible.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Mochowski

High school is an important time for our young people. They are growing into their own persons and more and more thinking for themselves. Students need guidance and care. They need information. This is why I want them all to have a copy of *Stamped: Racism, Antiracism and You,* by Jason Reynolds and Ibram X. Kendi. Help my freshmen start their high school careers learning about the history of racism in this country so they can fight for, create and live in an antiracist society. Education is more important than ever.
