  • Empowering Students Through Robotics and Coding

    Funded May 28, 2021

Thank you so much for donating the Lego WeDo 2.0 robotics core set and an iPad. Your generosity made science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and coding come to life for my students. My students were able to use the IF/Then Collection website which teaches students about women in technology and specifically the work by Gracie Ermi, a research software engineer. Students used the combination of the LEGO bricks and the iPad computer software to engage in standards-based projects. Students built confidence to ask questions, define problems, and design their own solutions.

STEM learning was extended by integrating life, physical, earth, and space sciences, and engineering. Students worked in cooperative groups to produce robotic creations, and use coding to program their robots to complete a specific action and task. Furthermore, Students presented their final robotics project to their classroom and school peers. Also, students posted videos of their completed robotics creations on our classroom online blog, expanding their learning boundaries beyond the classroom. LEGO bricks and coding with an iPad brought abstract concepts to life with a fun, hands-on approach that engaged all my students, boys and girls, and provided them with necessary 21st century skills. Thanks a million!”

  • Inspiring Students to Use the Power of Their Voices

    Funded Dec 3, 2019

Thank you for your generosity in providing my students with the Qball speaker and book, Say Something by Peter H. Reynolds. After reading the book aloud to my students, it lead to an exhilarating Literature Circle discussion using the Qball Throwable Microphone. The Qball Throwable Microphone engaged my students in discussing how they can state their opinion, speak up for what they believe in, and express how they feel. The Qball Throwable Microphone particularly motivated my shy students to speak up, express themselves more during classroom discussions, and "Say something!"

Students are growing up in a world that is facing many challenges. Students need to be empowered to address those challenges by learning to express themselves through a powerful and strong voice. The book, in conjunction with the Qball, taught my students an empowering life lesson.”

  • Essential School Supplies For Student Learning

    Funded Oct 25, 2019

I am extremely grateful for providing my students with the essential classroom supplies and tools they need. My students were ecstatic and eager to start using their new school supplies.

For example, students used folders to carry their homework to and from school and are now able to keep their work organized in class. Pens, erasers, staplers, glue sticks, and markers allowed students to write creative essays. Also, these supplies helped students produce collaborative posters, art work, and crafts. Students used the Sticky Notes to take notes and annotate as they read informational text and literature. Further, students used the pencil pouches and storage bins to organize all their materials and keep them readily accessible to use throughout the day as they engaged in a variety of learning opportunities and tasks.

With these basic classroom supplies, my students started the year with the essential tools for learning in an organized classroom. Thanks a million!”

  • Developing Financial Knowledge and Literacy Skills

    Funded Oct 17, 2019

Thanks a million for supporting my professional development and financial literacy by providing me with an awesome Asus Zenbook laptop. I used the Asus Zenbook laptop computer to further enhance my personal financial knowledge and literacy skills through online research and education.

For example, I used the Asus Zenbook to access the non-profit organization Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy plethora of online information and resources for teacher professional development. Through my own personal financial learning from reading and researching on the Jump$tart Coalition for Personal Financial Literacy website, and the financial literacy lessons students engaged in, my students own financial literacy grew exponentially.

I learned about the National Standards in K-12 Personal Finance Education that delineate the personal finance knowledge and ability that young people should acquire throughout their kindergarten through 12th grade school years to emerge as independent adult consumers, fully prepared to make wise financial decisions for a lifetime of economic well-being. I learned the framework of a comprehensive personal finance curriculum that begins early in elementary school, builds on foundational knowledge and results in high school graduates who are competent, confident managers of their own money.

With your generous support, I was able to develop professionally and increase my personal financial knowledge and literacy skills.”

  • Enhancing Teaching Through Online Courses Like iTunes University

    Funded Oct 17, 2019

Thank you for supporting my professional development by providing me with an Asus computer. As a result of resources, apps, websites, and courses accessed by using the Asus computer I became well informed as to the best educational practices that engaged my students in their learning and helped them meet the rigorous Common Core standards as well as give them the 21st century skills necessary for success.

For example, I enhanced my Math curriculum by following an iTunes course on Understanding Numbers and the Number System. Also, I took the ASCD course on "Teaching Students to Drive Their Brains" to learn about the key skill of metacognition and how it is one of the characteristics of high-achieving students. Furthermore, through Capella University's "Professional Development Courses for Digital Age Classroom" I learned a wide range of 21st century topics crucial for my students learning and advancement.

I truly believe that by improving my teaching pedagogy and lesson planning skills through courses offered on iTunes University and many other online professional development websites, I positively affected student learning and engagement.”

  • Technology, iPads & Art for the 21st Century Part 3

    Funded Apr 6, 2018

Thank you for your generous donation and supporting my students learning. Students had a blast producing original, digital works of literacy through writing a script for their super hero skits. This made students become active participants in the creative process by integrating the curriculum and taking ownership of their learning. The possibilities for creativity and critical analysis of art pieces were endless. Students used the microphone to record their super hero skits as they dressed up in their capes.

Also, students developed a love for creating original art with the help of technology. For example, they researched Joseph Stella and recreated his mixed media art lines. They had an opportunity to collaborate and share their creations with their peers as well as critique each others newly created works. In the process, they will improve language arts fluency.

These worthwhile experiences provided students with opportunities to immerse themselves in imaginative literacy art projects and meet Common Core reading and writing standards. Thank you for your generosity, and facilitating this innovative learning.”

  • Groovy STEM Lab in Third Grade

    Funded Jan 14, 2018

I would like to greatly thank you on behalf of my students for the donation of the Groovy STEM lab boxes. Students had a blast learning about rocket science. They created different forms of Rockets and learned Newton's third law of motion. Students used a cylinder container and added water and a Alka-Seltzer tablet that created pressure and blew the lid right off the container. Another experiment students attached an inflatable balloon to a fish line and released it and the balloon propelled across the finish line in a zip line fashion. Students also created their own individual model rocket and they use a straw to propel it. Finally they created a larger model of rocket where they used a rubber band and dowel to propel it and they counted the distance in feet of how far it traveled. Stem learning came alive for my students and they were thrilled and excited every single day to work on their Groovy STEM lab projects. Thanks a million for your generous donation and supporting STEM education for my students.”
