My students are from a rural Kentucky high school. Our school has implemented a literacy initiative to help the low-level readers in our school. 67% of the freshmen class does not read on grade level and many upper classmen are struggling readers, as well. Our school district is Title I, meaning the majority of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch. Because of this issue, our school struggles to find funding for required textbooks and is unable to purchase supplemental reading materials.
