  • Beta Club's Big Adventure: Ready for the Georgia State Convention!

    Funded Nov 9, 2024

Thank you for helping to fund our DonorsChoose project, Beta Club's Big Adventure: Ready for the Georgia State Convention! Your support made it possible for our students to experience the Georgia State Convention for the first time in over a decade.

The excitement among the students was building from the moment we registered for Savannah. Our Beta Club members were fully equipped with the travel supplies, organizational tools, and materials needed to shine. We competed in several competitions where students gave their best in activities like cake decorating, instrumental trio and painting. Moreover, the daily debriefs revealed that meeting with students from across Georgia deepened the commitment to excellence and community service among our club members.

This trip would not have been as seamless or impactful without your support. You helped alleviate financial burdens for our students and ensured they could focus entirely on making the most of this unique opportunity. From the bus ride to the competition sites, your contribution was a constant reminder that our community believes in their potential.

Thank you for investing in our students and their future. Your kindness and belief in their success will continue to inspire them as they strive to achieve even greater things.”

  • Calculating Minds: Empowering Math Students with Access to Scientific Calculators

    Funded Jul 24, 2024

Thank you so much for your generous support of the "Calculating Minds: Empowering Math Students with Access to Scientific Calculators" project! Because of your contribution, my students now have access to scientific calculators that deepen their understanding and engagement with mathematical concepts.

Your support has helped create an inclusive environment where each student, regardless of their access to personal devices, can fully engage in lessons and build essential problem-solving skills. Students have been using the calculators to analyze data sets, solve multi-step problems, and identify patterns as we explore ways to transform functions on the coordinate plane. Additionally, Students are learning to balance calculator use with written calculations and understanding the importance of precision. They're gaining the confidence to take risks, validate their answers, and think critically — skills that will serve them well in future academic and real-world settings.

Thank you again for making this possible. Your contribution has made a tangible difference, and my students and I are incredibly grateful.”

  • Bridging Gaps to High School Success With Summer Math Bootcamp

    Funded May 7, 2024

Thanks to your generosity, students quickly perked up on the first day of the summer session when they went "shopping" around the room to build their math tool kits. They decorated their water bottles and notebooks, stuffed pencil pouches, and decorated name plates. These supplies guaranteed that everyone was ready to begin our mathematical journey.

The month was filled with a variety of experiences to build confident mathematical problem solvers ready to enter high school. Students improved organization skills while recording their learning daily in the math notebooks and maintaining a deck of big idea notecards. By week 2, students were making suggestions during the morning launch about concepts to add to the deck of cards. They also saw the benefits of the daily documentation in their notebooks when faced with problem solving tasks that married multiple skills. The conversations around the room were filled with excitement when someone was able to make a connection to previous topics or present a solution on the board. Moreover, students eagerly shared what they were learning whenever the administrators dropped in.

The math toolkits guaranteed that no one was left behind on the mathematical journey. More importantly, students were able to view math with a clean slate while developing study skills to prepare them for high school. Their daily reflections revealed less fear about high school and more confidence about starting Algebra 1. Thank you again for your contribution toward bridging the gaps during summer math bootcamp and the snacks to help feed them during transitions.”

  • Enhancing Math Engagement Through Collaborative Learning

    Funded Jan 17, 2024

Thanks to your generosity, Enhancing Math Engagement Through Collaborative Learning became a reality. Your support provided a powerful addition to my classroom. Students set goals at the onset of the semester. I also made some adjustments to include more time for practice inside the classroom.

With the addition of the collapsible boards to our classroom, students had interactive spaces to share mathematical thinking, strategies, and solutions. Sharing the collective authority in the classroom increased engagement and content mastery. Students were able to work with partners while completing problem sets. This provided time for me to move around the room to monitor progress with small groups and assist when needed. Students were more comfortable asking questions in the small groups compared to whole class sessions.

It was exciting to hear students confidently share their understanding while others were debating strategies and freely asking questions. Collectively, everyone was able to strengthen their mathematics toolbox and become more confident.

Thank you for helping to provide these opportunities this semester. It has been rewarding to watch student engagement increase through student collaborations. Students have come closer to meeting their semester goals while learning transferable skills that will benefit them beyond math class.”

  • Restocking Math Supply Kits for Semester 2

    Funded Dec 30, 2023

Thanks to your generosity, students were able to restock their math supply starter kits for the second semester of the school year. Consumables like pencils, glue sticks, and dry-erase markers help students maintain an organized math notebook to document their learning.

The math kits have also minimized the opportunities for spreading germs during the height of cold and flu season. Students have been recording new concepts daily as they summarize and practice. It is becoming a habit for students to keep the tools on their desks for the entire class to secure handouts in their math notebook, take notes on graphic organizers, or record strategies during group work.

Removing the obstacles associated with the lack of supplies guaranteed that no one was left behind on the mathematical journey. Thank you again for your contribution toward restocking students' supply pouches while activating learning in my classroom at the start of the new semester.”

  • Celebrating the Woodland Community All Year Long

    Funded Jul 21, 2023

Thanks to your generosity, the WHS Beta Club received art and party supplies to begin a year of celebrations. Your contributions have made it possible for members to create displays of generosity and support to highlight various Woodland stakeholders.

It has been a busy fall season. Beta Club members assisted the WHS Athletic Department with home games. In addition to volunteering at games, members created posters to encourage ticket sales and cheer on the Volleyball team as they headed to the state play-offs. Bus drivers were surprised with handwritten thank-you cards and treat bags during Bus Driver Appreciation Week. Last, Beta Club particpated in the Community Trunk or Treat. Student volunteers designed and created a trunk display then volunteered on the day of the event.

Thank you again for your contribution toward our year of celebrations. We are looking forward to more celebrations during the second semester.”

  • Beta Club Community Clean Ups

    Funded Jul 21, 2023

Thanks to your generosity, the WHS Beta Club was able to stock supplies in preparation for our quarterly community clean-ups. Members assembled on a chilly Saturday morning in October for our first clean-up. They were equipped with plastic gloves, grabbers, and trash bags to pick up debris from our cluster schools. It was impressive to see a group of teenagers spend 3 hours combing the parking lots and school grounds without complaints.

In addition to cleaning up 3 campuses, members bonded with each other and the club sponsors. There was chatter about homecoming, assignments, and upcoming service projects. I even overheard a few students chatting about the possibility of Beta Club assisting with cleaning up the stadium following games and extending the frequency of the community clean-ups. Once all of the trash bags were placed in the dumpster, students enjoyed snacks and bottled water as we debriefed.

I am so glad to see the students embrace this year-long endeavor to service the Woodland Cluster. Thank you again for contributing to our project this school year. I look forward to watching the Beta Club members continue to grow as service leaders.”

  • Ready to Learn: Supply Starter Kits for Math Class

    Funded Jul 21, 2023

Thanks to your generosity, parents were told during Open House that students would get a starter kit of school supplies to get them ready for the new year. Each math starter kit was filled with a variety of supplies including a math notebook, highlighters, dry-erase markers, glue sticks, rulers and scissors.

These supplies guaranteed that everyone was ready to learn when school started in August. The math kits have also minimized the opportunities for spreading germs. Students record their learning daily as they explore new concepts and practice. It is becoming a habit for students to keep the tools on their desks for the entire class to secure handouts in their math notebook, take notes on graphic organizers, or record strategies during group work.

Removing the obstacles associated with the lack of supplies in August guaranteed that no one was left behind on the mathematical journey. Thank you again for your contribution toward activating learning in my classroom this year.”
