Most of my students come from homes where reading was not a priority. In the past, I have used "And Then There Were None" with students because it teaches them to ask questions and analyze the content while keeping them interested. While the primary goal is to encourage students to use higher level thinking skills, Agatha Christie's novels often spark an interest in reading for fun. Often students have no interest in reading because the materials given to them while they were in school didn't appeal to them. I want them to realize that thinking is fun. The skills the students will use while reading this text will help them in school and life. Analyzing situations, critically analyzing characters, thinking outside the box, and paying attention to details are all skills they will use in either a career or college.
