Some of my students do not have their own graphing calculators and due to the situation created by Covid-19 they cannot use any calculators from school. As a teacher, I do not have any TI-Nspire Calculators to share with my students, so students who cannot afford to buy a calculator, do not have access to one. It is important for high school students to learn how to use graphing calculators because they are an essential part of any math and science class. In my mathematics classes, students learn how to graph various functions and interpret key points on those graphs, how to solve systems of linear and non-linear equations using graphs, how to find the line/curve of best fit, how to use calculators to evaluate exponential, logarithmic and trigonometric expression, and many more. Graphing calculators are also used in Chemistry, Physics and Biology. If students who cannot afford the price of a graphing calculator do not have an opportunity to learn those skills on a calculator borrowed from school, they will be in a disadvantage from students who can afford them.
