Trip to Compete at National Leadership and Skills Conference

Funded May 14, 2019

The nationals trip to Kentucky was everything my student hoped for. It was insightful exciting and most of all FUN! The student was tired from the long days of traveling, but that did not stop him competing his very best. The student quickly learned that competing at the national level is very different, but for all the right reasons! Students were able to connect with others from around the nation and also learned how to overcome various barriers that were faced. My student placed 12th in his competition scoring a 92%. Immediately after the competition he was smiling and confident he performed his best.

One highlight of the trip for my student was the traveling to a new place. My student went from a small, impoverished town to the thriving city of Louisville, Kentucky. He was able to try new food, meet people from different parts and experience a horse race at the Churchill Downs. This was definitely a trip of a lifetime for him. Each step of the way my students were able to learn from traveling. I enjoyed teaching my student the ins and outs of traveling. This experience gave my students exposure to others from various backgrounds, cultures, and states. Thus, this allowed my students to learn from others alike and different. Needless to say I believe he has the travel bug now.

While the trip gave my students experience, the learning does not stop when we return. This trip and opportunity inspired my student to keep pursuing and taking advantage of opportunities presented to them while being able to continue the conversations upon our arrival. I greatly appreciate your support and assistance in allowing my students to be able to compete at this level. Thank you.”

With gratitude,
