Students learn best through visualization and hands on projects. Exploring different methods of artistic expression to show comprehension of scientific concepts will reinforce student knowledge and engage their imaginations. A variety of art supplies will allow students to be creative as they make connections in science. My students get excited when they can show what they learned in science through their artwork. Marine Science students will use poster board, markers and watercolors to create original and informative projects such as posters to show their understanding and increase awareness of current events influencing the ocean. AP Environmental Science classes need colored pencils to keep nature journals. Drawing and questioning what they see outdoors causes students to take time to make careful observations of the natural world. Earth/Environmental students need construction paper, glue sticks, markers and colored pencils to create models of the Earth systems they are learning about such as the water cycle and plate boundaries. Drawing, illustrating, describing, sharing, and reflecting on their artwork reinforces student learning and allows them to have a deeper understanding of the concepts they are learning. I hope you will consider helping me fund this project as it would make these science classes memorable for my students. Thank you!
